Master Wipe it Dry pad
« on: August 19, 2014, 03:15:27 PM »
I've been hearing good things about the 'Wipe it Dry pad' from Master industries.

Any thoughts?

Also, I'm curious how similar these are to leather chamois, because they are significantly cheaper.

Given how well micro-fiber towels do wipe oil off a ball (contrary to what the Wipe-It-Dry video shows), for about $1 for a 16"x 16" micro-fiber towel, versus the
$22 to as much as $33.95 per towel PLUS SHIPPING for a Wipe-It-Dry,
personally I have a hard time even considering paying that much for this "revolutionary" device.

Try a chamois and let us know how much better than a micro-fiber towel removes lane oil.

Yeah, the video is definitely just a marketing thing, but I'm definitely still curious.  The price is too high, but I've read in other places that they may indeed work fairly well.

I got one yesterday from my local pro shop and practiced yesterday and today.  They do work.  How much better than microfiber...I would say much better if oil is on ball it removes it.  I used a Storm SuperNatural on a fresh house shot and oil sits on ball because of the urethane formulation cover.  The WID removed it....microfiber removed some but not as much as WID.

Cost is $21.99 free shipping.

And out of stock  :(

I guess that's one of the main reasons I was curious about whether it's similar to a leather chamois or not.

Does it have a thickness to it? O

So how about going to walmart or bedbathbeyond and trying a shamwow? Easy return policy if it doesn't work.

I was going to post something about this actually, I ordered one for myself last week.  I've used microfiber for the last couple years, and this thing blows it away.  What used to be several passes with a microfiber towel, that still didn't really completely get all the oil off, now is just a single pass over the oil and it all comes off, ball feels like you just got done cleaning it.  There's no refolding of the towel when somebody knocks it off the table, there's nobody mistaking it for theirs and taking it because no one else has one yet, and it works extremely well.
What would you be if you were attached to another object by an inclined plane, wrapped helically around an axis?

I put my name on mine (permanent marker) since I think you will see more of them as they work well.

In this thread Hank Boomershine says how to care for WID.

When cleaning the leather pad, I would recommend that you use ordinary dish soap. Thoroughly rinse the pad after washing and let air dry. Once dry, you can use a shoe brush to skuff the leather again. Thanks

Thanks Scott and Giz for actual feedback of the product.  I'm not as much a skeptic, so there's a pretty good chance I order one for myself as well.

If you can get a shamwow or chamois reasonably I see them working as well.  In fact a friend of mine suggested using a leftover old leather pad from a Dexter shoe and wash it and scuff if used and sewing into a pad for backing.

If it is just a leather towl you can buy it else where cheaper without shipping. SImilar to the Dexter leather/deerskin soles.

It's better constructed than a towel.  It's a pad with backing.  Easier use....no folding.  For me it's worth $20.....heaven knows I've blown more $$$ on other bowling crap than a WID that I use after every shot.

I understand being excited about the backing I guess. Still not sure when folding became an issue. Usually folding it allows for easier placement into a bag or other item for carry.

Shamwow doesn't having backing and you thought it would work.
Just a suggestion for someone to try that maybe interested. Not doubting the usefulness of the product.

I completely understand.  I was looking for someone who already has one to advise whether or not a leather chamois has a similar feel.

I'm guessing it being more of a pad than a towel may be one of the reasons they're marketing it as a new product.
