Need some insight please.
« on: March 24, 2010, 10:55:07 AM »
I am currently shopping for a new ball. I guess in could consider myself a tweener. I am currently using a Kinetic dulled to make it more controllable. Wanting to play 10-12 board maybe a 2 board swing. Looking for something similar in reaction. Bought a 715A and is way too aggressive, with the having to play an inside line with that ball, it screwed up my game big time and gave me very bad habits. Again just looking for something controllable for a down and in shot. Any insight is appreciated.

I talked it over with my proshop guy. He recommends for my game either a Evil Siege or the c-system 3.5. Not sure if they can give me what I want. I watch all of these videos on-line and everyone is inside swinging them our and ripping back. Just want to know if anyone is playing a down and in line with them, with good results.

Those balls aren't any weaker than the 715A, and I'd be surprised if the 3.5 wasn't significantly stronger.  The suggestions made are probably good, you could look at the Dark Star.  That ball seems incredibly smooth for a pearl, and it's not a hook monster.  A Mars is a little weaker but will probably require a smooth rolling layout to control it more.  Same for the avalanche Pearl g/b.

Keep in mind the conditions greatly affect where you play the lane.  If you're not anywhere near 10 board with your Kinetic you probably won't get anything but urethane to work out there.

My suggestions here would be to try the 505C for a controlled roll or a 505A for a more angular backend.

The Evil Siege could work with a dual angle layout something in the 75 x 5 x 60 range. The 75 degree will get the ball to rev up later, 5" pin to PAP will get the ball down the lane and the 60 degree VAL angle will help smooth out the breakpoint.

The Visionary Ogre Pearl is a good choice for a nice down and in shot.

The Roto Grip Dark Star will give you a nice control shot but still give you a great entry angle. Also, its really affordable.

Brunswick's Avalanches, either the Solid or the G/B Pearl, would also be great choices for a more direct line. Ogres are good, too!
