Not one PBA All Star Shootout post??
« on: June 15, 2007, 02:43:02 PM »
I'm shocked to come on here and not find one post about the PBA All Stary Shootout here in St. Louis' Six Flags.

I gotta tell you what, this has been one of the greatest tournaments I've ever witnessed.  I've been there for the last two days, from the open of the park, to the close, and it's the coolest (not literally, the lanes got up to 150 degress, and the gutters got to 177 degrees!  So hot, they said they can't use them again, because they were starting to warp!).  They're playing on the Scorpion pattern, but it seemed to be a lot more bank than they're used to (obviously, because the sun has been scorching!).  It's an interesting format, Scotch doubles, and if your partner picks a split, you get 5 bonus pins.  Also, if you strike on your fill ball, you qualify for an "endless 10th frame" where if you need the win, you keep striking until you win, or if the opponents qualified too, you strike enough to beat them, then it goes back to the other team, and they have to strike, and the first team that doesn't strike loses.  Pretty crazy format, but a lot of fun.  The bowlers have been "trash talking" each other every game.  One of the greatest lines of the day was from Walter Ray when he left a 7 pin. "Don't these pins know who I am?"  Classic.

Here's some pics from the day, I tried to keep them as spoiler free as possible.

I will tell you this though, the first game of the tournament is the highest scoring match of the whole two days.

Here's a pic of how the lanes look.  They're built out on the parking lot.

Here's a pic of how the advertisements look next to the lanes, and to show the parking lot it's on.

Anyways, I'm tired, I've been there far too long and I'm far too drained right now, just thought it was kind of crazy that not one person posted about this yet that I could find.

Enjoy.

Well the PBA website has been mum about the results, and no one knows the scores unless you went to see it live.  I don't mind seeing people talk about it, but until they show it on ESPN, I'd like anyone who went to see it to keep quiet about the results (which you've done, kudos).

Agreed.  Reminds me of the Rotogrip bags with the red/black color scheme.

I went there thursday and planned for friday but got too burnt. I posted in columbias thread about wes malott. he easily outhooked everyone and the new ball he was throwing looked impressive. I left right before kent/machuga came up, couldn't handle the sun sizzling  my arms and shoulders anymore. I live 45 mins away and I was a little disappointed in the turnout. stl is supposed to be a big bowling area. considering it has the bowling hall of fame. I went to valley park when the tour came a few years back. that had a good turnout, maybe this tourney didn't get much advertising was the reason. hope this doesn't hurt a chance for a regular stop in the future.                 by the way, I'm just now able to close my mouth after watching jeanette lee all day. my lord shes so hot!

Odd question...who was using the Stardust Bowl towel in the pic of Walter Ray's Awesome Hook?  Just surprised to see a towel from my area sitting there.

It had to be either Duke or Williams, because it was during their match (they were teammates, no spoilers there, lol)

Here's a video of me after the trick shots.  They were offering 5 shots for $5 on the lanes the pros were bowling on.  They oiled right before we came on.  I wound up doing 15 shots, striking 9 of the shots.  One run-away brooklyn, the rest were pocket.  4 of them were nut flush, ;-) One messenger 10, a few others were mixers, pretty fun!  The second shot on the video is a fast 8.  Billy O was holding the camera and providing commentary the whole time.  BUTTER! BUTTER!

:-) Enjoy

Wes Mallot was also giving me some advice, and he talked with me a good 5 minutes.  Pretty knowledgeable, and nice guy too, all of the pros here were awesome.

Beef, I just got home from Six Flags and I wanted to let you know that we had a blast today with the PBA boys. There was a Q & A session for an hour, trick shot session for an hour and a half and then a fund raising event for the St. Louis International Bowling Hall of Fame where for $5 you can bowl 5 shots on the lanes they used this week.

I have plenty of pictures from todays events and some video so I will start another thread so not to take over yours. I will try and have my summary with everything posted by sometime Sunday or Monday night.

Just one quick other note. I bowled on the lanes tonight and was able to try out a Hammer Black Widow Pearl tonight that was Doug Kent's. Awesome.

Beef, okay then. I'll try and have it all posted later tomorrow or Monday. It was an awesome time. I took my kid's and they had a blast as well. The 16 guys are so down to earth and they were all very fan oriented. Right now I'm going to relax, drink a beer and catch the end of the Cardinals game. What a great day.

Beef, I just realized from watching your video from Saturday night at the fundraiser, I was standing behind you in line waiting for my chance to bowl. My wife, son and myself were waiting in the second part of the line and we were right behind you. I watched you bowl and then my son came up and bowled with Billy Oatman and Billy was giving him some instruction and Wes Mallot was giving him some encouragement as well. At the end of your video as it swings behind you, I can see my wife and the lady that was behind us.

Billy was excited to work with my son because he is a lefty like Billy. Billy was great and my son was so thrilled.
