Old Ball...New Look?
« on: November 05, 2003, 04:19:55 PM »
A discussion last night with a prominent individual in the industry got me thinking about how gullible many bowlers may be, and the correlation to past discussions on the relevance to ball sales corresponding to what ball is being seen on a PBA telecast.

Is the ball on the telecast actually the same ball that the "average Joe bowler" purchases? Well we do know that there has been in the past many "pro balls" distinguished by a different color pin, and that these were different from balls sold in local pro shops.

But is the ball even the "same" ball? Why couldn't a company theoretically take a players favorite ball and just make some to look like the companies "newest" ball? As an example...Big B make a batch of Command Zone Arc's and stamp them as Time Zones. Thus it would benefit the player using a "fav" and benefit the company by "marketing" their latest.

Most experienced bowlers have a few favorites that they wish were still available, and know would be beneficial to have in their arsenal.  So why wouldn't the professional want the same thing? Of course by some contracts the pro's MUST throw what is in the companies current line-up. Solution...old ball...new look and name....Hmmmmm.

Just something to ponder.
