Opinions on new ball
« on: January 13, 2017, 06:51:44 AM »
Can I get some opinions on which ball to get?  My standard ball speed is 21mph with moderate revs. I've been working on slowing it down and it is down from 27mph. Anything lower is very difficult for me to maintain and control. I'm going to get a new ball (already have a Hammer Bad Intentions Hybrid and Rhino Pro Teal - the vintage model lol).

Balls I'm considering:

No Rules
Code Black
Phaze II
Scandal
Jackal Ghost

As you can see I'm not brand dependent. Budget is not a concern for this purchase.

What do you suggest and why?

Your help is greatly appreciated!!!!

My suggestion is, no matter what brand, get something aggressive that reads early do to your ball speed.

That seems like an awfully high ball speed. Getting any ball to read when it should is going to be difficult unless there's also a ton of revs as well What weight do you throw?

And yeah, what bowler231 said is right. Something that's aggressive and early is what you want. Definitely take the Code Black off your list. Off the top of my head these would be my recommendations for the current/upcoming releases:

Absolute Nirvana, Pitbull, Cash, Tyrant, Warrior Supreme, Gauntlet, Scandal, Mako, No Rules, Alpha Crux, and Jackal Ghost.

Spend money for lessons with a good coach(since budget is not a concern). No matter what ball you choose, you can always throw it through the break point if your speed and revs do not match up at least somewhat.

I second your comment Milo, as well as the above statements.

Thanks for the suggestions. I use 15lbs. Also, I do have a coach and he suggested the No Rules. Didn't know if others had another opinion.

I've seen a lot of No Rules being thrown since it's release. It looks like a great ball that hooks a lot. But if your ball speed is over 20, without the revs to match it, it might as well be plastic unless you are bowling on a very light pattern or burnt shot.

Something from Coor's list above and try and get that speed to drop just a touch more.
Current Rotation:
PhysiX
Code X
Code Black
Axiom Pearl
Phaze III
Trend
IQ Tour

I'd get
Scandal
Jackal Ghost

I already have a Scandal, and it's great.
I'd get the Ghost because it's Motiv and it looks like it's a great ball.
I might use only Motiv next season.
Get a heavy oil ball and a medium oil ball from them after the summer break. Loving my Venom Shock.
Most used:
Motiv Venom Shock (14)
DV8 Grudge Hybrid (14)
Hammer Scandal (14)
DV8 Freakshow (14)

Sometimes.
C300 Swerve (14)
Motiv Jackal LE (14)

Retired:
Roto Grip Sinister (13)
Motiv Jackal (14)

Given to a no-thumber in the club:
Brunswick T-zone (13)

Might stick with Motiv from now on.

The No Rules is a great ball, but like the others stated, I would avoid Pearl and Hybrid coverstocks.
14lb 15.5 mph at pins 325 Revs. Silver Coach, Ball Driller. In Bag:  Storm Pro-Motion, Hyroad X, Matchup, Code Red.

Thanks everyone for your insight. I've ordered the No Rules (not the pearl). I'll let y'all know how it goes. Talked with my coach again and said he'd drill and make any necessary surface adjustments to get it to read. Hoping to be set for the regional held in March.
