PBA Experience

I averaged a 179 THS ending the season mon. nights.  I was averaging 590-620 towards the end.  How humbled will I be in the sport shot league?  I have two balls and a spare ball right now,

1- Total Inferno
2- Total NV
3- Maxim

15 pounds, do I need to add a ball to my arsenal (I really want to get the Roto Grip Cell) but will it do any good or am I just buying to buy?

It will kick your arse. lol I avg about 210-220 on a THS but on the PBA shots im avg about 165. I guess i was just a house hack but this league will confirm how good you really are...it will lower your self confidence..lol

Get a Cell it can't hurt on the heavy patterns. Also if you are an area bowler you will get destroyed by an experience league. I don't see much of a difference in scoring when I move to sport patterns because I spent so much time working on my accuracy.

Most bowlers experience anywhere from a 10-20 pin drop in there THS average on the PBA experience league. My suggestion to you is to have a heavy oil surface ball as well as a medium oil surface ball and a spare ball if you currently use one.
Keep in mind that straighter is greater. Try not to cover too many boards or you'll get yourself into trouble with splits and washouts.

It all depends on you.  How good is your spare game?  With a good spare game, my average went from 205-210 on a THS to a 200 in a PBA experience league.  The PBA shots are playable, you just have to find what works for you and repeat it.  Going straighter definitely is better.  My motto on any tough shot is keep the ball near the pocket, leave something makable and make it .  Every now and then I got on good streaks and shot some big scores (especially on the Cheetah, Scorpion and Shark patterns).  I am still trying to figure out the Viper pattern...this shot kicked my butt...if not for the Viper I would be averaging about the same or better than my THS average

Go out and find out - as many others indicated: with a sound spare game and the ability to play different lines, you should not drop too much in average. Just expect that the lanes do not offer much room for error at all, and that changing conditions in the course of play will be an additional task - reading the lanes is a vital asset here to stay competitive and to prevent loss of wood after some games.

Besides, you do IMHO not need more or different balls. It is the player who conquers the lane, not the ball itself. With TI as an oil ball and the TNV for mediums (???) this is IMO a sufficient combo.

Thanks for all of the feedback.  I am not too worried about this league, it is just my first time though and a little nervous that I do not have all of the equipment for the shots.  I am more of a spare shooter than stringing strikes together guy.  I shot a 254 this year with 7 strikes in a row, so that was the best I have done yet.  Usually get a double or two and a triple per game, then spare out.  Toward the end of this year I averaged one open per game for the last 18 games.  

My NV is longer than my Inferno, they both have similar backends.  I use the inferno on med-heavy and the NV on light-med.  I do not think my inferno is strong enough and my nv is too strong for dry lanes.  So I see an add to both sides before next season.  Which is better to add for this upcoming league?  Heavy or light?

i average around 215 on ths and a 172 on the pba experience...you need to get you a ball for heavy oil and then one for pretty light oil...the total inferno wont help so much....a cell would be a good choice for heavy oil.

Sports are never really dry. Go with the Cell to get the Heavy ball.

Thats my problem. I done great on the chameleon, shark and scorpion but the shorter patterns like the cheetah and viper killed my avg. The other lanes I avg around 180-190 but I could bearly break 100 on the cheetah and viper...just can't figure them out...oh well. don't really care, not going pro anytime soon! lol

I would say it depends on how those two are drilled. One of the previous posters was right in saying that you've got a good heavy oil ball and a good one for mediums, I would probably say that to compete effectively on PBA patterns, you'd need something to cover the shorter oil patterns but rolls a little earlier, like the total inferno.

Something like an ultra zone might do it or a t road solid. As you're a lefty I'd suggest going a little stronger with the drill/surface due to less traffic breaking down the pattern.

I officially bowled in my first pba experience league this past winter, it ends this week, and i shot really well o nthe shark pattern, I think I averaged around 215-220 on the shark, and the scorpian wasen't too bad for me either, but the viper and the cheetah was interesting, I would of scored well, if I could of hit my mark more consistantly. One thing about the shark is, do not go up the 5 or 6 board, not a very good idea, the best line that I found was 27 at the foul line with my feet, with my break point at around 9 or 10 down the lane. But like what others have said, straighter is greater when it permits you to do so.
