PBA new upcoming bans in 2023

The PBA Tour will ban wrist supports with “restrictive material” such as steel or plastic supportive bracing starting Jan. 1, 2023. The new rule applies only to PBA Tour competition, not PBA50 or PBA Regional competition, or PBA50 or PWBA players in doubles/team events with PBA players.


PBA announced to ban Plugged Bowling Balls from 2023.

This is kind of a slippery slope.

Does this mean that the Storm Power Plus glove that Arturo Quintero used will be banned?  It has interchangeable pads that attach to the palm to change the angle of the ball in the hand.  It can be used with or without the removable support bar inside the glove.  Regardless, even if used without the support bar it is still influencing the ball roll.

The plugged ball rule makes sense.

My assumption would be yes because of the pads

Way to go PBA! Keep on thinning out the herd. At this rate, along with the plugged ball ban they'll be lucky to get 25 new entries at their next tournament. LOL

I think if the metal plate is removed, it would no longer be a wrist support. The rule doesn't say anything about a palm pad. The palm pad is not plastic or metal.

According to multiple PBA members I've seen address this question, the Storm glove Arturo used will still be legal.

I have that glove, by the way, and when I was a two-hander it had a lot of benefit to helping the ball sit a certain way in my hand, but when I put my thumb back in the ball, I have to use the biggest pad and turn it around upside-down almost to get it to contact the ball's surface while I'm holding it. The biggest benefit to using it is that the index and pinky finger material is tacky. I personally don't think it works as intended.

Here's the rule-

9.2.5 Use of Wrist Supports. Use of Wrist Supports, with any type of restrictive material such as a steel or plastic supportive brace that holds the wrist in a relatively neutral position, basically immobilizing the joint completely, will not be allowed for use in PBA Tour competition beginning January 1, 2023. Tape, gloves, and other supportive wristbands without these restrictive qualities of supportive steel or plastic will be allowed.
PENALTY: 1st Offense - Warning PENALTY: 2nd Offense - PBA Code of Ethics Violation – Disqualification
NOTE: Wrist Supports will be allowed in PBA50 Tour and PBA Regional Tour events. Furthermore, if PBA Tour/PBA50 Tour or PBA Tour/PWBA Tour doubles, or other forms of team tournaments are held, the PBA50 and PWBA players will be allowed to use wrist supports

According to this, the Vise wrist supports wouldn't be allowed, but the Storm C4 would. If i'm reading this correctly.

The Storm C4 allows the wrist to bend forward. The Vise support locks your wrist in place.

I've got another "hopefully" potential ban that could come down the pike.....say one of the guys on the pba your decides to indentify as a woman and enters all the lpbt events, that would certainly be a cry foul moment.
