PBA oil pattern specs
« on: January 06, 2010, 05:10:05 AM »
is there any way to get the specs or download the file to put into the oil machine without getting the bowling alley certified?

the mechanic said he would put the patterns into the machine for our summer league but the bowling alley wont pay to get the center certified, just wondering if there was any way to get the patterns

I don't know if anything has changed, but it didn't cost any more to get the alley sport certified (as opposed to regular certification) when I was a laneman.  They do need a tape reader and lane recorder as sport leagues must have tapes pulled prior.  This can be expensive.

The whole secret pattern thing is ridiculous.  Every machine is different.  Every center uses different oil.  The same pattern is gonna react different in every single house it is used, so what is the point?

I do believe the Kegel patterns are free to use.  You can always give them a try.

You don't have to pay anything to certify the center.  All you have to do is run a Sport Pattern, run a tape on it, mail it in the the USBC Sport People and fill out the online registration.  Once your center is registered the first year, you don't have to run tapes in following years to recertify.

The only way to get the PBA oil patterns legally is to run a certified sport bowling league.  Once you fill out the center and league registration links on bowl.com you'll recieve the password to access the oil patterns.

The PBA owns the patterns and all of the rights to them, and have spent a lot of time and money to market them.  That is why they are not available for free.

they have the equipment to do the tape, they do it before fall leagues every year when they do the lane certifications

we have used the kegel patterns the last 2 years for our unsanctioned sport league, one year we used the challenge patterns and last year we used the actual sport patterns, but we wanted to do the PBA Experience this summer but the house wont do the sport certification because they think it costs more money

looks like maybe there is a universal password that they give out..
maybe you could find it with a google search.

to those of you who haven't bowled on any of the pba's oil patterns you had better come prepared. shotmakers will be rewarded. players who spray it all over will suffer. and poor spare shooters will really suffer.
