PBA Players Championship telecast
« on: February 12, 2017, 02:16:32 PM »
Anyone besides me got a little tired of the 1..2..3 rah rah chanting? Also, it was pretty surprising to see Belmo not get one ball to flush the pocket all match, the new Timeless looks like it has a ton of length and carries the off hits really well...then again it could just be the product of Belmo's 600+ rev rate. lol Looks like it'd be a great later block or a nice league condition ball for us lower rev guys. Guess I'll have to drill one out and see for myself!

The chants made it a very hard show to watch. They didn't need to do that on every mark. I watched the last 2 matches on mute.

PBA stated huge ratings for the last show prior to todays. lets face it, people left
on after the game and they gauge ratings on those numbers ----- BS ratings, was at my neighbors who left espn on after the game, inflated ratings our wives and us had no idea bowling was on until the end.

today, chanting equals begging please make this more exciting than it is we need sponsors to stick around and begging the audience to interact and simply screams  please help get some excitement much like an nba game etc...

maybe some realize, some do not, the big push for an exciting month of live shows is only existent due to there is NOTHING else on. come on  guys common sense please.

the only reason these shows exist is to promote the latest/greatest equipment (except the haywire) to keep the ball companies shelling out a ridiculous amount of money to be "PBA registered/approved" its all a sham.

Great thing about the show today was the bowling was fun to watch. It didn't need the gimmick chanting. Nice to see this month with an actual tour and not 5 tournaments in a week.

PBA may not be the same like it was before on TV and but I'm VERY HAPPY it is still on TV.

My thoughts:

- The young talent in bowling right now is phenomenal.  Simonsen, Pickford, and Chapman are so young and really really good.  Bowling as a sport's future is bright no matter how much money is involved.  I hope sponsors pick up on this going forward.

- The chanting/cheering is not awesome.  Just let people cheer the way they want.  It seemed so forced/not natural.

- I am not a Belmo hater at all but dude did himself no favors at the end of the show...Turning to the crowd and saying "Number 7" = FIGJAM/douche.  Not waiting till Simonsen was done to pick up the trophy - not awesome.  Dude didn't even shake Simonsen's hand after the match (at least not on camera)...just not a great showing of respect towards his opponent or the game in my opinion.

I really like all of the new talent that is upcoming on the PBA. I also am not a Belmo hater, but there is something about him that irks me. I also think that the PBA needs to take a lesson from the PWBA, because I enjoy the women's tour shows much better!

The bowling itself was good. It shows how hard it is to bowl on some of these PBA patterns. It's scary when Belmo, at 600 RPM's, had a hard time getting his ball to turn the corner. I'm not a two handed fan, but he was masterful taking what the lanes were giving him.

The chanting and clapping?? It reminded me of being at my daughter's high school basketball games. From my perspective, it was annoying, contrived, and out of place for a professional tournament. I hope this is just a phase that will soon pass.

I'm not a Belmo lover, but give him his due.  He hasn't won in two years.  I think he got
complacent, put on some weight and frankly he may have been momentarily "shell shocked" by the success of other two hander e.g. Simonson, Maulando, Swensson (sorry for any errors in name spelling).
In the off season, he lost a lot of weight, re-dedicated himself to his game and came out ready to prove to himself he can still be a major force in the game.
Seven majors in what 8/9 years is quite a feat.  The true test is can he continue to again dominate?  Only time will tell.  Stay tuned!

The chants are stupid, clearly brought forth by that announcer dude that clearly doesn't bowl.

Timeless infact doesn't look as good as we hoped go figure...Same as the phaze and fight lol.

Belmos disrespect to simonsen could be from all of the other 2 handers taking his spot light ....I almost wanna root for him more now....He's the o.g.

Found myself rooting for Belmo and a couple of years ago that would never happen. The young kids have been kinda showing him up. I do think however the bunch of young players are great for the game. I even liked the chants.  From a post above I agree for someone my age I like the PWBA telecasts better.  Oh, I did not need Randy P telling me what seemed like 2 or 3 times a frame that Belmo needed to square it up.

I wasn't crazy about the cheering either but it was better than 10 years ago when they were trying to get everyone to cheer during the players shots not after.

From the bowling perspective it was fun watching them on a shot where if they missed much they wouldn't hit the pocket.
