I may not be the best person to explain it but the pics should help.

It's pertains to the core. The sym core is the same shape no matter what angle you look at it. http://www.hammerbowling.com/retired_balls/detail.php?PRKey=43

The asym core is not the same from any angle. http://www.hammerbowling.com/products/balls/detail.php?PRKey=67

The basic difference is this:
1.If you take a symmetrical core and cut it in half from top to bottom, both pieces will be exactly alike.

2.If you take an asymmetrical core and cut it in half from top to bottom, both pieces will be unique.

An asymmetric core will have a difference in shape from one side of it to the other while a symmetric core is the same all the way around.

The oddly shaped side of the asymmetric core is what is used to create a stronger mass bias than is found in symmetric balls.

One's a DoDo ball.  One is not.  Both have cores that are 5 times the size they should be.
