Prize money elegibility discussion
« on: April 08, 2018, 01:16:26 PM »
So a thought just occurred to me. According to league rules, a person that quits the league is not eligible for prizes such as scratch game, series, etc. What are your thoughts on if a bowler has to switch hands due to injury? As the person this applies to and as someone that has a say in running the league, I see both sides of the discussion.

In favor of losing the award: a new average is established, therefore it is the same as a new person bowling as the numbers play out

In favor of keeping the award: it is still the same person paying for the spot on the team. Circumstances dictate being unable to finish the season with that hand, but the person is still finishing the league.

Please give your honest input because I am torn. Also it isn't about the money. It's like $10 lol

The person switching hands has not quit the league, they have simply altered their style.

The only issue I could see would be if there was a league rule on the number of games needed to qualify for an award. It would be possible they wouldn't have enough games with either hand (assuming a 2/3 season rule or say 66 games).

For the most part I would say if they earned an award then they should receive it.

I would think in this scenario, number of games should only come into play for something like High Average.  If you paid into the prize fund all year, you should be eligible for any of the other awards.

This makes way too much sense. If the person shot 300 before the injury, you’re gonna try to say they don’t deserve high game because they had to switch hands due to injury? It’s not like they didn’t throw the game.

one award I would have hesitation issuing to a guy switching hands is most improved.

If most improved is based on previous years average for most, but the LT hand average of the guy switching gets to start after establishing a 21 game average, and then improve on that, I think that situation is an unfair advantage.

and the reason I bring this is up is that "most improved" in my expierence ends up going to relately new bowlers that dont usually compete for high game or series awards; and I want to everything to encourage them to A) Keep bowling and B) keep getting better
