Pro Shops
« on: March 23, 2010, 05:21:20 AM »
Ok, now I know I get on here sometimes and say dumb things. But I do care a lot about Bowling and Yes I own a online shop. I just want everyone to compare. I realize Brick shops have to make money because of their overhead. But some of their prices are a little high. I went into one last week. They were selling the Dexter SST8's for $225.00. Online You can get them for $150.00. They had a Storm Virtual Energy for $229.99 + Grips and Slug. = $245.99. Online You can get it for $165.00(not drilled). So there is some prices that SOME brick shops have too high and that is why they go out of Business. EVERYONE is hurting because of the economy. Hopefully it will get better.

What about Discounted pricing? If an online shop sells 1000 of ball X vs 50 of ball X in a Brick in Mortar, do online shops get discounted pricing? cutting thier costs way down?

I don't get special pricing. Of course I don't buy 1000 at a time.

If you don't get special pricing, then you are dealing with the wrong distributor(s).  Make some phone calls, do some research, there are a number of distributors that will drop ship for your internet site AND give internet tier pricing.

If you run your business the way you post on this site I can't see how you make any money. This is some of the dumbest dribble I have ever seen.

Let's see you buy a ball online drill it it cracks do you think the shop will get it fixed for you? Hell no have you ever tried getting a ball replaced by a manufacturer its not always easy. You buy it at a shop they take the time to work with you get your pap help with surface adjustments our shop gives a free 30 mins lesson a free resurface and rejuvination. Online is one of the reasons I think bowling is going down hill

I totally disagree. Online is helping Bowling. We are selling more products and getting more people to Bowl. As for the Cracking, anyone that buys from Us gets a new Ball and sends the old one back to Us.

Crap, crap.  NO online shop is helping bowling.  They are helping themselves to make a living, it is a business.  NO online shop has gotten MORE people to bowl.  Those people were already bowling and wanted to save some money.

What is this US stuff you speak of Boos?  Please tell me you just mistyped.  There cannot be more morons like yourself working with you??  Lord, help us!

One other question Boos, have you ever stopped to consider that maybe your prices are too low?  You might be costing yourself money by selling to cheaply?  BTW, what is your web site, I have heard of numbers of other sites, but still don't know the one that you speak of????

Ok if you all don't mind let me do a comparison of my own.

Dexter sst8..you say online is $150...with me they're $144

Storm virtual energy..you say online is $165(seems high to me but ok) with me it's $145.99(undrilled)...not the cheapest but very competitive and on some balls we're cheaper(sold jigsaw corners last week for $119.99 ball only)..with the online shop you get just the ball and the standard 12 month warranty...my customers on the other hand get a FREE extended 18 month warranty..a good fit guarantee...AND if they need any surface changes to the ball to get it to react the way they want it I will adjust it for FREE....also we have some of the best cleaner on the market...I'll toss a bottle of that in as well so they're new ball lasts longer...help them get lined in with it...spend time with them on the lanes..online shops can't provide any of these extra services I can.

Boos I'm not bashing you just pointing out that we at Best Bowling Proshops have found ways to show we're better than online pricing because we give more.  Do we gringe when a ball is brought in from the internet?  Heck no!  Are drilling prices are the same no matter where the ball is purchased and the customer is still treated with respect..just with us they get so much more for they're dollar.  /rant

Exactly. Add grips and slugs and You got it for $145

It's not cheaper.  You continue to leave out the price to have the ball drilled.  $139shipped plus $50 to drill plus grips and slugs for around $15-$20.  Why does no one ever factor in the cost the person has to pay to actually take it to a shop and still have it drilled?

Your math is as good as your "quoting" skills.

Because I don't have too. Just listing price because $165 seemed high online for a VE.

" men lie, women lie, numbers don't "

I was saying the above in reference to boos because he continued to compare an undrilled just-for-the-ball price to a drilled out the door price to make his point.

Boos, I'm not talking about your prices for grips and slugs, because what you are selling that for is only slightly more than a lot of shops buy then for.  I talking about buying a ball from you online and then that person taking it to a shop to have it drilled with grips and slugs.  Most shops I have either worked in or been to, do grips for $10 for the set and slugs for $8-12.  Some will do the whole "drilling" package for $60.  Your original post said you could get a VE online for $165 and using that price you save $20 at the most IF shipping is free.  Drilling is a lot more than paying for a product, you are also paying for the service, so if you don't feel that walking into a shop and having everything guaranteed (product, fit, adjustments later on, etc.) then you are just another ignorant cheap ass bowler that wants everything for free.

Why are you in a bowling sales business if you don't even know what distributors to use?
