proshop blues
« on: September 01, 2003, 11:07:33 AM »
More and more lately I've gone into our local proshop and noticed something that kinda upsets me. It seems to me that people take what these proshop people do for granted. I really don't know exactly what these people make as far as profit (I can't emagine its too much) but I'm pretty sure they sacrifice a lot of time and money to keep good relationships and keep their customers happy day after day. And I mean all the little things like shine jobs, removing some tape, or beveling that hole a little. I went to our local proshop the other day to get some work done on my ball. I stood around for a while waiting for him to finish my ball and I listened to all the people coming in and out barking orders at this poor guy. It went sort of like "I need this done"...out the door...back in..."you done yet" and this wasn't just one guy either, it was just about everyone! Well, while sitting aound listening to this I got my ball back after he was finished and loudly said THANK YOU and the guy almost did a double take. It looked like he was in shock and it was the first time he'd ever heard the word! So anyway, I was just wondering how people are treated in your local proshops. And next time your in there remember, something as small as a thank you may make someone elses day!

Yep, Nick nailed it.  And don't forget the people that start a league at 6:30.  At 7:50, halfway through their set, (and ten minutes before we close, NATURALLY) they decide they want a ball.  Of course they're house ball bowlers, and they want their first bowling ball for themselves.  Yes, I have to fit them then and there.  Ok, they've picked out a thumbsize, have to go bowl!  They come back five minutes later.  Ok, now they got the fingers, gotta go bowl again!  And when we finally get it done, this lady says in her whiniest voice "But I wanted it done toniiiiiight!"  Ok, even though it's 8:30 and I should have closed up a half hour ago, that's fine.  The boss wasn't happy, but it was a sale we wouldn't have gotten, and they were pretty appreciative, so all in all it was ok.  But yeah, beveling, sanding, a quick polishing, stuff like that we do for free.  But it costs a lot of money to have little things in the shop that just sit there most of the time.  We have a whole wall full of NFL towels that usually sell a couple every week, but to have 2 of each team up there at all times is a little expensive.  Keeping things stocked is what costs, and like Nick said, all the little things and tools that we use in the back are expensive.  Hell, sharpening the drill bits is expensive.  The boss has a friend that works at Jayhawk, but stuff still costs.  Thanks for noticing what the pro shop guys go through, bigaba, you're the kind of customer we like seeing!

Forget Kung Fu, I know Ron Bahr!!!

The only difference between youth and adult leagues are that the big boys are allowed to whine.  They're more entertaining anyway.
