Question
« on: September 20, 2006, 11:06:02 AM »
Ok, Since my wife is in the Military, we move around alot and that means only one thing. Every three years or so, I need to find a new ball driller. And each one seems to have their own version on how my thumb should be. Some change the pitch, bigger, smaller, oval, non-oval, ect.

My question is, do those removeable thumbs really work and are they good. I was thinking since we move around alot, I could get those and just keep putting them into a new ball when I buy one.

Please, any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

BOWLING IS FUN NO MATTER WHAT YOU SCORE. BUT A 300 IS ALWAYS NICE.

STRIKE ZONE & PYRO. STAND 15 AND THROW 10 OUT TO 5 AND SMASH THE POCKET. AT LEAST THAT IS THE PLAN OF THE NIGHT...

Removable thumbs work quite well, and the good thing is that you can have multiple inserts for one ball and change them (e. g. with different pitches or sizes for summer/winter use).

Down side is that you might have to prep your whole arsenal with the basic insert to make use of the system properly, and you will still need a ball driller who is able to set up a ball for you and knows how to handle the switch grip system. I guess not every pro shop knows or handles these?

Personally, I would not see much progress if you have your drilling sheet with you. A good pro shop should check your current balls, watch you bowl and set up the ball for your requests. The thumb drilling shape might differ, but since no ball is perfectly drilled the same (except for the thumb switch), I do not see much inferiority in the conventional thumb solution?
