So last night i was subbing on my girlfriends team for a teammate who is injured. Two of the guys we were bowling against went outside for a "cigarette break" between the second and third game. They came back absolutely reeking of pot smoke. When we questioned them about it they kinda gave us a "whats the big deal about smoking some weed" comments. What i'm wondering is there a USBC rule pertaining to this and can they get in trouble for it?

That seems to be the default answer for any pro-legalism argument, whether it's pot, prostitution, etc. Fact is society has prioritized what it will accept and what it won't, and what they'll look the other way with, or what things it considers "not really that bad after all."

Fair? Maybe not, but that's not the point. The point is, it just is.

Good point Jess. Thing is I don't smoke (weed or anything else), don't go to prostitutes either, do gamble and speed on rare occasions.

We have a team like that in my league. it's horrible. You can smell them 4-5 pairs down. 4 out of 5 of them are above 200 average. the pot relaxes them so they just throw the ball.

Personally the smell of pot makes me hurl, so I have to be careful around them. You can compare it to steroids and baseball, steroids are illegal in the US, but they "weren't" in baseball.

A few mates of mine formed a team called "Coneheads" a few yrs back, they were happy after there pre leauge warmup routine in the carpark!!!!

They were smoking it outside. As far as I know the only way that second hand smoke would show up in your system is if you went outside with them.

Actually, it's 3rd hand smoke, and it's a scientific fact. The chance of it showing up on a drug test are insanely small, and it would have to be given within a couple hours for what I'm sure you're being exposed to.

Honestly, I wouldn't care. Smoking cigarettes has been banned inside as well, and I'm sure they stink as well. So smell shouldn't be the issue. The only problem I could see is if the cops in your town are trying to juice up on revenue, and they take you down for not telling anyone. Other than that, why confront something completely harmless?

My opinion is that if they want to smoke up during bowling no big deal to me as long as they are there when it is there turn to bowl. If I know they have been hitting it and I see them get behind the wheel...well that is what the cell phone is for...and yes I do the same thing for the drunks...I am not putting my life at risk so they can have a good time...
