Does Clean and Dull really have a grit additive?
« on: March 12, 2011, 11:15:52 PM »
I didn't think there was any grit to Clean and Dull at all.  Watching the video with Chris Barnes talking about Power House products on Ballreviews, I heard him say that Clean and Dull has a grit added to it and it will bring the balls surface down/up to between 1000 and 1500.  Is that true?  I thought Clean and Dull was just a deep cleaner.

Clean 'n Dull, Clean 'n Sheen, Clean 'n Smooth, Clean 'n Tacky and Delayed Reaction I can see why people get confused, even Chris Barnes. I have used these products over the years and really liked them all. As stated  early in this post, Abralon pads changed a lot in surface management. Clean 'n Dull is a cleaner and that is all it does. I still have a older bottle with the Track label and it has no abrasive in it. The Clean 'n Sheen does have abrasive in it. I think we are all in agreement on that. I don't remember a name change, but that is very possible with Ebonite. I was told by a Track ball rep at the time of the buy out that Ebonite talked to them about what cleaning products were good enough to retain. Clean an Dull was at the top of the list at that time. It is the best cleaner I have used to keep the oil out of the ball.

Let me try and clarify some things about what Chris said in the video. Our Clean & Dull  product has never been advertised as having a grit additive in it but will give some balls a duller appearance after application. As far as how much it changes the ball we can't say for sure since every cover's chemical composition is different. Clean & Dull is still mixed and package by the same company that made it for Track. Sorry for any confusion in the video.

Rich,

Are you saying that nothing has ever changed from the track to the powerhouse clean n dull?

I have some clean n dull that is in the old clear plastic squarish track bottle.. and I just recently received some powerhouse branded clean n dull in the white squeeze top bottle.  Something changed somewhere with this product.  These two are not the same.  They are definitely different in smell and appearance.. I did some tests and I will also say that the newer powerhouse branded clean n dull does not clean as well as the older one.

Please confirm

The PH clean and dull I've used was a clear green gel.

yes.. the older track clean n dull is a yellowish brown... and smells way different.. and seems to work a lot better

oh yeah... and the older track stuff seems to want to eat through the container.. or atleast melt it and morph it into a different shape..

It says it right on the Clean and Dull bottle that it has no effect on the reaction of any surface. I use it on my pearls and polished equipment and there is no effect. If you just clean a ball without wiping the Clean and Dull off with some water (thanks Charlest) or with another cleaner like Remedy Rx then there seems to be a dull film on the ball, but once wiped off the ball looks and reacts the same.

I go with Rememdy Rx after every session and hit up the Clean and Dull about every 2 or 3 weeks to get the track and belt marks off of the ball.

JW,

Regarding the color:
I have an original sealed quart of Track C&D in clear plastic container. It is still the same dark green gel it has always been.

I have an opened smaller bottle that I use regularly that has had the cap screwed on an doff many times. It is a yellow-ish gel with a slight tinge of green. I believe that exposure to the air is what turns it yellow.
