Remember your first time?
« on: April 19, 2005, 01:36:30 AM »
I am talking ball fitting here... Due to tremendous hand pain and release issues, I underwent an entire refitting of my hand. Apparently 6 yrs ago went I started converting to 15 pound balls someone dropped my ring finger... All my balls after that were just mapped. I didn't have any problems at that time. However, as I increased from 2 leagues to 3... bowled tournaments more often and practiced more... My hand stretched out. I was inadvertently squeezing all my shots increasing the damage to my hand and my subsequent release problems... Blew 1000s, I mean 1000s of dollars over thumb hang/drag that would just take enough revs to tap at the worst of times or worse yet pull it into the beak. My driller, also a serious scratch league bowler, coach and friend, just assumed I knew what I was doing the last 3 years as I began to drill all of my D/T balls w/a dropped ring finger... Until I called in a sub to bowl one night because I felt I needed to rest my hand. We went back through an thorough refitting procedure and since my refitting 27 league games ago... I have had 2-279s, 2-278s, 3-269s, 1-268, 1-258, 1-249, 1-244... 794 last night (W/O ANY PAIN), in 4 different houses/shots and averaging 238! If you are having release problems see a good driller to check your fit! Don't tough it out with tons of tape, ERZ slide, chapstick, etc... eventually it will come back to haunt you. I wish I would have done this sooner!

I ran into a similar problem.  My driller copied spans & pitches from old equipment.  However since most of them use grease pencils, it doesn't take long for them to add in or subtract 1/8" on the span.  Close enough that it feels "good" far enough off to screw up everything else.

Now I get remeasured each time I get a new piece of equipment.
