Resurfacing
« on: January 09, 2008, 02:06:55 PM »
How many times can a ball be resurfaced before its time to really put the ball away? Im going to resurface my Rival after two and half months of use with over 100 games on it.

As long as you can read the labels, you're OK.  It's better to do light resurfacing more often, rather than waiting until it's really tracked out and removing a lot of surface.  You can probably do 4+ resurfaces without worry.

I fully agree with Strider, Also by lightly resurfacing
the ball more often opposed to doing a total resurface
of the ball periodically, your cover stock is more
consistent week to week.

Besides agreeing with the constant/frequent surface prep being much better than once-in-a-while-all-around-jobs the rules permit a resurfacing as long as the ball stays big enough to be used within legal limits.

but when it comes to just repolishing it up I guess you can do that as often as one can imagine without taking anything off the ball... or am I wrong?

I've done up to 6 heavy resurfacings on a ball (about 300 games per).

At that point the label/serial numbers started to disappear.

It is better to do a bunch of light resurfacing, but if you bowl a lot you are going to want to get the oil out of the ball(s) as well. At our pro shop we reccomend to do this every 60-75 games, and to do a complete bake and resurface at least once a year.
But then again, if your bowling a lot you are probably getting new equipment more than once every year so the amount of games you actually put on a ball could be less
