Saturday Afternoon Open Bowling Rant
« on: November 21, 2009, 08:20:34 AM »
Went to throw a couple games with my girlfriend at the local alley down the street because we get 2 free games a week and haven't used any of them.  What a mistake...
Do 7 people really need to be up on the lane next to the ball return during the whole game?
What is with letting your 4 year old lay on the approach and flail their arms back and forth making dust angels.  Would you let them roll all over the ground anywhere else?
Dodging little kids running in front of you on your approach to throw the ball adds a new dimension to the game. People, your daughter almost got a 16 lb ball smashed into her head at 17 mph.. maybe get a clue and don't let her run around uncontrolled.
I know I don't own the chairs and table that are designated for the lane I am bowling on but do you really have to put your drink, keys, and fries on my table while you bowl.  You have a table and chairs in front of the lanes you are bowling on.
I also love the irritated look as I move a chair that is in front of the lane that I am getting ready to bowl on.  I would think you would have common sense to move it yourself when you see that people are coming to bowl on the adjacent lane... nope, you have no clue.
Yes , It is a blast that you had 8 up there and the machine knocked one down and it gave you a 9.. hahahahaHAHAH.. Would you care that according to the rules you really only got 8... probably not..
Done bowling.. wow.. so much fun.. and its not over..
On the way out a little kid running around not looking runs right into me and falls down.  I step over him so that I don't step on him, see he isn't even crying and keep walking as an angy mother yells , " No you didn't just step over my son?".. I turn shrug my shoulders and answer back, "control your kid".. She is lucky I was able to step over him.

fun fun fun..

Safety is safety....regardless of open leagues or not.

I worked with son on bowling etiquette since he started bowling at 4 and he does a good job of it at 10....so I can't complain as a parent of a child.

I will admit though....that after talking to teens about being courteous and the possibilty of getting hurt by running up there...I've been known to personally 'stray' to the right when I find them running up on me.  Chances of them getting knocked on their butt??  Pretty good actually.  After a little embarassment....it usually sinks in as to what I was referring to.

Come on,  we all know that sat. is kids day.....

But I do feel it would be nice if the people who run the centers would use their heads and seperate league bowlers from moms and the kids...

It's not rocker science...

Moms and the kids start on lanes 1 & 2....
League bowlers start at the other end of the house...  Say lane 32....

And then work back to the middle....

So if your a league bowler looking to practice and you get there early, you should be far apart from mom and the kids...

But NO, the centers don't do this....

Because some fat over weight mechanic might have to far to walk for a ball call.....

Which is why bowling gets another black eye....  Just like the black eye it got on last weeks TV show CSI...

Most parents on here, teaching their kids to behave in public and respect others.I have a 15, 10 , 7 year old. When I take them to bowling or movies or anywhere. They know how to act. Why kids today act like they do? They get it from the parents plain and simple.Matter of fact, parent act worse than kids today. My little girl who is 7 and my son 10. Both can bowl with out bumpers. They turn to me and say. These kids are really bad and they are too hype! I just laughed. It''s all about being an example to your kids and show them right from wrong.

Sounds like the parent of an unruly child, or one who has no respect for manners and common courtesy himself...

Because 95%+ of the time it's about guaranteed it will be one of the baggy-pants, cap on sidways, droopy-drawered, bling-wearin', swaggerin', gangster-lookin', rap-spewing, foul-mouthed, AA's that do it !!!

I spent most of my money on bowling and women...  the rest I just wasted!

Thats nice...

But where I'm from, "95%+" of those "that do it" are stuck up, preppy kids with mom and dads money and an entitlement complex.

Being an asshole is not race or gender specific.

Classy.  Help the kid up next time, it's not going to kill you to be nice once in a while.

I am nice most of the time.. this time I wasn't... and the fact that the mother came at me with attitude like I did something to her kid made sure I wasn't going to help the kid up..

it isn't a race thing .. it is a culture thing.. there are plenty of white, asian, and mexican kids that want to be part of that street culture where the dumber you look , talk , and act the cooler you are. Or think you are.

J_w73 you said free game and your decription sounds like a Brunswick Zone bowling alley but maybe it's not.
I have ran into this very problem. I bowl in 2-3 leagues a year at the same house and Brunswick gives me free games for acomplishments in league.
It has become IMPOSSIBLE to practice at this alley. They have either leagues nonstop that usually fill up 90% of the 40 lane alley if not all of it anytime at night. In the day it's not any better. Even during the week in the day there is "senior league", or "housewife league" that take up lanes. The rest of the lanes are filled with rude open play bowlers or kids that have no supervision. Teenagers smoking, cussing and won't shut up. People that never heard of lane courtesy and if you get near some of them they stare you down like you are invading their space. Well I'm done with it and been done with it. No one is going to prevent me from following the rules of the alley even though the alley doesn't care. I used to go on the weekends but there is so many people bowling from leagues, open play and then worse birthday parties. The stupid birthday parties is what is wrong with bowling and they take up 15 lanes that only have 2 or 3 bratty kids on each lane. The kids don't even care what they are doing or hitting. Put up some bumpers, loud annoying music, glow lights, disco balls, spinning colored lights and cameras they don't care. It's worse then Chuck E. Cheese. Sometimes I will take a day off to go to this alley on a Thursday morning and the lanes are nearly filled with a daycare or something else like a mentally disabled crowd. I'm sick of bowling in this enviorment so I have to usually find an other alley across town that doesn't have all that garbage and pay more money per game.
What's the incentive of getting free games if you can't use them in a decent bowler's enviorment?
