Saturday Afternoon Open Bowling Rant
« on: November 21, 2009, 08:20:34 AM »
Went to throw a couple games with my girlfriend at the local alley down the street because we get 2 free games a week and haven't used any of them.  What a mistake...
Do 7 people really need to be up on the lane next to the ball return during the whole game?
What is with letting your 4 year old lay on the approach and flail their arms back and forth making dust angels.  Would you let them roll all over the ground anywhere else?
Dodging little kids running in front of you on your approach to throw the ball adds a new dimension to the game. People, your daughter almost got a 16 lb ball smashed into her head at 17 mph.. maybe get a clue and don't let her run around uncontrolled.
I know I don't own the chairs and table that are designated for the lane I am bowling on but do you really have to put your drink, keys, and fries on my table while you bowl.  You have a table and chairs in front of the lanes you are bowling on.
I also love the irritated look as I move a chair that is in front of the lane that I am getting ready to bowl on.  I would think you would have common sense to move it yourself when you see that people are coming to bowl on the adjacent lane... nope, you have no clue.
Yes , It is a blast that you had 8 up there and the machine knocked one down and it gave you a 9.. hahahahaHAHAH.. Would you care that according to the rules you really only got 8... probably not..
Done bowling.. wow.. so much fun.. and its not over..
On the way out a little kid running around not looking runs right into me and falls down.  I step over him so that I don't step on him, see he isn't even crying and keep walking as an angy mother yells , " No you didn't just step over my son?".. I turn shrug my shoulders and answer back, "control your kid".. She is lucky I was able to step over him.

fun fun fun..

What did his being black have to do with anything?

ummmmmmm cause he was black....???  he wasnt mexican, italian or chinese... LOL

The point is that out of ALL the stories that were told here, you are the only one who mentioned someones race. Out of ALL the stories here, I''ll bet you that it''s not 95% black! I''ve had these things happened to me all the time and they were black, hispanic and white.
For me, if you''re not on my lane, I don''t care what people do. Lane courtesy is not not an offense to me, they just don''t know bowling etiquette. I PAID for the lane all the way to the pins and if anyone violates that space more than once we have a problem! That is of course after I explained what you can and can''t do like walking on my lane, throwing a ball at my pins and DO NOT TOUCH MY BALLS!

Because 95%+ of the time it''''s about guaranteed it will be one of the baggy-pants, cap on sidways, droopy-drawered, bling-wearin'''', swaggerin'''', gangster-lookin'''', rap-spewing, foul-mouthed, AA''''s that do it !!!

I spent most of my money on bowling and women...  the rest I just wasted!

it isn''''t a race thing .. it is a culture thing.. there are plenty of white, asian, and mexican kids that want to be part of that street culture where the dumber you look , talk , and act the cooler you are. Or think you are.

Ive gone through all this so many times. I like going on Saturdays when I have free time to practice and i'm so used to it that I can block out almost everything while im trying to make my shots. I went last Saturday and got put next to a couple and their two kids and it was one of the easiest times ive had open bowling on a Saturday, the parents had respect and made sure their kids had respect as well which was nice to see for a change.

I've also run into this quite a bit, and it makes for a very enjoyable time...even if everything around you is terrible, if the people on the lane next to you are polite and respectful.

Over the summer, I was out practicing with my family and the people on the lane next to us were perfect.  Mom, dad and two kids...very polite, friendly, talkative.  First time a kid ran up on me, dad pulled him back after his shot, and didn't yell at him, but explained lane courtesy to him...kidn ever did it again.

Those kids loved sitting there watching me throw strike after strike...their eyes kept getting bigger.  Made me feel kinda good to know that I waa helping make it a memorable experience for the kids.  I made one kids day when I gave him a hi-five after he made a spare.

It really has nothing to do with good behavior...

Bowling today for many "non League" bowlers is all about having fun...

Most of the parents may not be league bowlers...So therefore they don''t know that you are supposed to wait for the "joe pro" 3 lanes over...

Now this may come as a shock to you league bowlers....

But these bowlers generally PAY more then you do....

They seldom ever complain that the lanes are too dry or have too much oil, etc etc etc....

And these are indeed the bowlers the owners of centers LOVE.....

Now once again...

Anyone with some commonsense knows that TODAY, saturday is kiddy day...

So if you go to the center to bowl..On a saturday...

Put up with it....

Or do what we do....

Show up with 15-20 "league bowlers" and get lanes at the other end of the house.......Manager usually will have no problem doing this...

And let the kids and moms have some fun....

and

lighten up already

Cracks me up to hear some of you knock how the little kids behave...

Have you seen how "league bowlers"  behave................

Kicking racks, throwing or bouncing balls,  giving the ten pin the official PBA salute while standing at the foul line after still another SOFT 10 pin...

Give me a break,  and give the little kids a break.

Cause their the future for bowling.

just in case you wanted to know

now

are we clear

BTW  this sundays score... Vikes 24 bears 0......  And that's at the end of the first quarter....

Open bowling, you know that you are running a risk, still..

Parents and kids do not now any bettr, at least when it comes to lane courtesy. Centres do not inform them, or at least mine doesn't.

However, their kids running over other lanes, or behind bowlers, or running down the lanes... OMG!! Parents are trying to hard to be their kids friends these days, and forgetting that these kids need parents firstly, and clear boundaries of what is acceptable behaviour ....Society has gone down the gurgler.. Its all about "my" kids, and that they can do whatever they want for amusement regardless..

My kids are great when I take them bowling (yes I'm a league bowler that helps), but my kids are great when we go shopping, and when we go to a restaurant, or when we go anywhere in public... Its because my wife and I are responsible parents. We make the time to instill a fair set of values that we have, and expect our kids to demonstrate the same values through their behaviour... Its not rocket science, it just takes time and patience.. This should be mandatory for all parents.

When we play mini golf, my kids now how to act, and I'm there watching over them..Thry're not taking anyone elses turn or being pains in the proverbial. Imagine some of these parents and kids on a golf course. Their sh*t would not be tolerated.. Sadly bowling managers are rarely there on weekends. You have counter staff who are not interested, and lack the initiative to act professionally.. One poster mentioned that their are anouncements over the PA at his centre. Great idea... Parents must be made aware that their precious little child does NOT have the right to ruin someone elses bowling experience... That would require good parenting...

The number of times I have seen little kids mucking around, with parents simply oblivious to this, or not caring as they suck down another Bourboun is amazing..These families as another poster stated earlier, are the same running nuts in malls and restaurants... Gee, I'd love to see these kids when they hit 14 and 15 yr, and say "I told u so" to their parents...

Parents reep what they sow...

Everynow and then u meet a great family on the lanes, and that is encouraging. Too few and far between..

Our centre manager needs to take more responsibility for their customers. Or train up your staff so they can better handle situations on the weekend.

Take care
LL

many of these problems we encounter at the local bowling center are reflected by what's going on in society today. there is very little parenting going on in regards to manners, etiquette, how to act in public, etc. i can't tell you what my parents would have done to me if i had acted like most of these kids do in public. i'm all in favor of the bowling center proprietor and/or manager escorting unruly and uncooperative customers to the doors.......they don't need that type of business. nor will they miss them.
