Saturday Afternoon Open Bowling Rant
« on: November 21, 2009, 08:20:34 AM »
Went to throw a couple games with my girlfriend at the local alley down the street because we get 2 free games a week and haven't used any of them.  What a mistake...
Do 7 people really need to be up on the lane next to the ball return during the whole game?
What is with letting your 4 year old lay on the approach and flail their arms back and forth making dust angels.  Would you let them roll all over the ground anywhere else?
Dodging little kids running in front of you on your approach to throw the ball adds a new dimension to the game. People, your daughter almost got a 16 lb ball smashed into her head at 17 mph.. maybe get a clue and don't let her run around uncontrolled.
I know I don't own the chairs and table that are designated for the lane I am bowling on but do you really have to put your drink, keys, and fries on my table while you bowl.  You have a table and chairs in front of the lanes you are bowling on.
I also love the irritated look as I move a chair that is in front of the lane that I am getting ready to bowl on.  I would think you would have common sense to move it yourself when you see that people are coming to bowl on the adjacent lane... nope, you have no clue.
Yes , It is a blast that you had 8 up there and the machine knocked one down and it gave you a 9.. hahahahaHAHAH.. Would you care that according to the rules you really only got 8... probably not..
Done bowling.. wow.. so much fun.. and its not over..
On the way out a little kid running around not looking runs right into me and falls down.  I step over him so that I don't step on him, see he isn't even crying and keep walking as an angy mother yells , " No you didn't just step over my son?".. I turn shrug my shoulders and answer back, "control your kid".. She is lucky I was able to step over him.

fun fun fun..

I hate rude people.

I practice alot while others are open bowling. I understand that kids have no idea whats right and wrong on the lanes. I see them walk up on people all the time. That's ok.

I do enjoy watching the real little ones have fun but when the kids are overstepping their boundries, the parents HAVE TO step in. The kid ran into you and the parent blame you for walking over him. What did they expect you to do? Help the kid up?

like I said.. he wasn't crying or balling and once I heard her first reaction was being offended that I stepped over him and not, "oh I'm sorry my kid ran right into you.."  I was like.. I'm outta here..
I don't mind kids having fun and enjoying bowling.. I'll be the first one high fiving them when then get a strike or spare.. I blame the parents  mostly.. kids don't know any better but grown adults should have a clue.. if not about bowling etiquette atleast about etiquette in general or just general awareness for the safety of your own kid..

I had a little girl walk in front of me on my approach during a practice session a few years ago. FOr some reason, I was able to stop - although I normally can't do that.

I went over and spoke to the parents about it - mentioned that they should keep their kid on their lanes, because she could get hurt otherwise - they said that if I touched their daughter in any way, they'd sue.

Luckily, I knew the management well - the parents were escorted out.

If you can't control 'em, don't have 'em.

Just another exapmple of the rapid decline is society.. Parents today let their kids do whatever they want because you wouldnt want to hurt their feelings or lower their self esteem..  Later they wonder why they keep having to bail them out of jail ...

As much as I love bowling, when we go open bowling and see that there are lot of cars in the parking lot, I almost cringe.

It really bothers me that a lot of parents won't even attempt to control or discipline their children.  If I acted the way that I see a lot of kids act today, we would have left the bowling alley early and it would not have been fun when we got home.

The running up on me doesn't really bother me...I can focus through that.  But the running around, yelling, screaming, running in front of me, ect. that bothers me.  It causes disruption, its annoying and can be dangerous.  I had one kid, that while I was setting up on the approach to make my spare, cut in front of me and throw his ball down my lane at my spare...so I looked over at his parents who were laughing and telling the kid how good he was and how much he must like to bowl.  They looked at my and said "he just saw pins and got excited"....my first thought was, 'is he a dog?'

I've had parents get downright irritated with me when I ask their son or daughter not to throw my bowling balls.  Once, I politely asked a kid not to throw my bowling ball.  He picked up another ball and threw it, then walked back to his parents who gave me the stink eye and told him "that he could throw any ball that he wanted".

Why don't we make this a total rant thread....everyone share their worst experiences when open bowling.

Don't forget, the same idiots who let their kids run all over the bowling center are the ones who let their kids run all over the mall, run and scream in resturants etc. We were in a buffet yesterday and a couple of kids were running into people who were carrying food back to their tables etc. The kids were yelling, taking food off the buffet etc. with their parents nowhere around. These kids were fat, too, no telling what kind of junk they ate.

People like that should not be allowed to have children.

The sad thing is that nearly all of us can releate to this thread.  And not one of us can combat the righteous parent with their kid situation.

No one ever thinks that I have the right to enjoy my paid games of bowling just as much as they do.  And I enjoy my games not having to dodge their kids, watch out for their kids''s hands in the ball return or step off spilled drinks, french fries and candy.  Because every parent knows now a days that the sun rises and set on their kids and that no one, nothing should ever stand between their kid and having a good time no matter how they go about it.

NEWS FLASH!!!  I''m not in love with your kid!!!  I don''t even like them or think they are cute!!

Except for NorCalBowler''s little girl who is really cute and perfectly behaved even when dragged to the center in the morning for certification.

The Center should give them some preliminary and basic rules of the road when sending them down to their lane.  But they do not.  Because most of the times, the manager is not there on the weekends and they have minimum wage kids working the desk who don''t give a c rap.  Even if the manager is there, most times these situations just run wild.

I only have one comment to all of this. Welcome to the new world of entitlement. Everyone has the right to do whatever they want, and nobody can tell them anything. Please be advised that i am trying to be funny, and this is the world we now live in, unfortunately.

If I do go, it is usually right when they open when there are less people.

and it is hard to resist when it is right down the street from me.
