Secretary fees
« on: May 25, 2012, 07:14:09 PM »
Is $4600 a lot for a 36tm league @ 36Weeks. Works up to almost $128 per week. Seems outrageous considering the house provides standing sheets and all.

Yes that is way to high IMO. If you have 5 people teams that is about $25 per person paying for fees. In our leagues we pay the secretary $7 a person.

You have to be kidding, right ? $4600 per year and /or $7 per bowler per week.

I have never paid a secetary/treasurer more than 0.45 cents per bowler per week for a 35 week season.

Where do your folks live.  Think I might move and become a professional secretary.

Does anyone else pay this much ??

Let me clear my statement up. We pay $7 per person for the 36 week season not per week.

Dont you vote on the fee at the league meeting? Every year we vote on the amount the secretary gets . Everyone should know this amount before the season starts. Personally I would not bowl in a league with fees that much.

Our leagues paid $0.75 per person per week for secretary fees, based on the last league meeting I attended about three years ago.  It had been that for many years prior to that, so maybe it has been raised by now.

Yours works out to about $0.70 so not as much as ours.  You're getting a bargain.

The secretaries in our center get .50 per bowler per week.  Every cent is earned having to deal with uncooperative management, clueless associations, dealing with the never ending complaints from bowlers, and chasing down bowlers who always seem to owe money.  It is amusing watching those who complain about secretary fees.  First step is to complain about the fees and they will do it for less.  They get elected.  After one year (or less), they say never again (and they stop complaining).

Back in the 70's and 80's a guy would be the secretary for the entire bowling center's league base.   They would do enough work to be justified as an employee of the bowling center.  It was a regular job.

Now we are talking houses that had full leagues, double shifts multi nights of the week back then.

I don't see how you have any prize fund left if your paying almost $5,000 for a guy to do paper work.  What do you pay?  $35 a night?

Daddy, if u read my earlier post, we joined late so I didn't know the fees before.
Also, I'm not saying it's an easy job but all I was asking in the original post was if that was alot for a 36tm league @4 per team for 36Weeks. I wish I could be a secretary cause I love doing that stuff.

I've been a secretary before. It is a pain of a job, but I don't believe any secretary should be paid more than .45 cents per person for the year!

wow. I've been in leagues where the secretary does it for free. imagine that! one told me he volunteered for free b/c he wanted the pay out to be that much more for the bowlers. I guess he didn't see it as a"job" to bay the bills, but as a hobby.

if you want to be in the lg again next fall, I would tell the pres up front that the fee has to be addressed at the capt's meeting before the season. if he won't hear it tell him you'll find another lg.
