snow and bowling
« on: March 01, 2009, 11:47:55 PM »
This question is for all of you that get frequent snow. I'm in southwest Virginia and it never fails, someone sees a few snow flakes and all leagues are cancelled and the centers close. Yes they were calling for 2-4 inches overnight last night but at 5pm the temp was 37 and the snow on the ground was all gone. It didn't start snowing agiain until after 9 pm. We could have bowled and gotten home before the roads got slick. It just seems pathetic to me for everyone to react as if we can't do anything because of a little snow. By the way, I enjoy driving in the snow. When I was 16, I learned car control by driving in it. Where else can you slide around at 25 MPH.

I'm from vermont and have driven to bowling with a foot of snow in the road.   It seldom gets cancelled unless it's ice.

We got about a foot of snow last night and it just started again. I expect to bowl league tonight. I would be very disappointed if it's cancelled.

Here in CNY they don't cancel leagues for snow.  If you can't make it, you just don't show up.  If you can make it, you make it.

I have never once had leagues cancelled due to weather.

In Utah it never gets cancelled either.

Every winter it takes a storm or two for everyone to remember how to drive in the snow again, but I can't remember ever having a league cancelled for snow.

The wimps in NJ cancel league if someone farts snow.

Last particular evening the road temperature was above freezing so nothing stuck through midnight but the league still choose to close.

I ended up going to the lanes to practice anyways.

Here in KS it would take Ice to cancel a league.   Hell I have seen leagues bowl right through Tornado warnings.

Here is Western Mass.  I think I have only seen bowling cancelled once in the last 15 years which was due to ice.

Big surprise here in NC.  We had about 3 inches of snow last night and my wife's morning league did not cancel.  Usually, if they even say the word "snow" they cancel.

Earlier this year it took me 3 hours to get to the bowling alley because of the snow and rush hour.  I had left about 2 hours early from work, and there was already 4 inches on the ground.  By the time I got there there was 8 inches on the roads.  It's usually a 20min drive from work to the center.  When I got there I was surprised to see league night mostly packed.  Things had started a bit late, so I only ended up missing the first game.

In MD Men's leagues usally bowl unless the center is closesd.  Mixed leagues base decision on if Snow Emergency plans are in effect or not.
