Light-weight balls
« on: September 02, 2005, 09:45:13 PM »
I am currently bowling with a 13lb ball because I am of a small statue. I have tried 14lb before but that was too heavy for me. Recently I've been told that balls weighing 13lb or below are manufactured without the core (or with only part of it) so they never achieve the ball reactions of heavier ones.
Is that true?

Thanks for the replies!

But shelley says Lane #1 don't make 13lb balls?
By the way, it's very difficult to find Lane #1 products here in Hong Kong.

Bowlingkid25, I can't say what core is used, but I checked with Ebonite, and they use a different core in the 13# V2 Sanded than what's in the 14#er, according to Mr Hickland's section, anyway.

I got my wife a 13#er, due to her wrist last year, we never drilled it, but I asked about the core, as Storm, Columbia both use different ones in "light" balls and I wondered. I was told it is a 'lighter core' so, I was told the filler is filler, can't be changed in weight. All I know is what Ebonite told me, I have yet to cut one open to see, not sure I want to , but I do think that's the only way one will ever know.

Again, we all have our opinions, I was only basing mine off what I was told by Ebonite.

Some of their equipment is available in 13#, some not.  The Cherry Bomb was not while the BCB is.  It looks like a lot of their newer equipment is available in 13#.

Use them a lot. See the speed and revs grow! (and your ability to use a heavier ball).

and after you master 2 product.. you learn TIGER CLAW!!!

Wow!
I think these could be helpful. But I can't get these shipped. Oops.

Once again, thanks for everyone's replies!
This is by far the best bowling-related forum I've ever visited.

I've just got the official reply from a Storm staff through e-mail. My 13lb Diablo contains a Modified Thunder core instead of the Twin-V weight block. So should I expect this ball to be reacting very much like Hot Rod Super Sport?
By the way, it is confirmed that the balls in the Storm Master Line use the same cores with fillers of different densities down to 12lb.

Well I have been throwing a 13lb ball too but now I've worked up to be comfortable with a 14lb. This made things better for me.

I am from Hong Kong. I have tried a wrist brace before but was not very comfortable with the release. But I am interested in exercises that could strengthen my wrist and arm. Any suggestions?

Thanks to you all!

Here's a great way to strengthen your wrist.  Doesn't cost much either.

You will need a 3' piece of round wood stock about 1" in diameter, a 3' piece of rope, and a plastic jug that you can fill with sand.

Drill a hole in the roundstock, tie the rope off thru the hole, and attach it to the jug.  Fill the jug with 2-3# of sand.

While you are watching TV, simply wind the rope up and down lifting the jug off of the floor.  Add or subtract sand as needed so that you can do about 20 reps in a row.  When it gets easy, add more sand.
