you are correct, spare ball is a spare. I'd say go ahead and get it, its polyester it will go straight like any other spare ball!

I would not let any sporting goods company drill a ball for me unless I personally knew the qualifications of the person doing the drilling.  On a plastic ball, you're not going to save much money over the internet, go to your local pro shop.  --  JohnP

A spare ball is not just a spare ball.  Over the years I have had several different spare balls.  There is a big difference between some of them.  Some I have liked a lot better than others.  I have a Brunswick Spinner right now that is   for a lack of a better description slick.  Some White Dots I have had seem to grab a bit.  What the hey give the ball a try, what do you have to lose.  Have someone that knows what they are doing drill it.  What is the worst that can happen?  If you don't like it put the ball down and try something else.

Do not let Dick's sporting goods drill that ball.

I think it would be a fine spare ball but they suck at drilling.
