sponsors on spare balls??
« on: October 28, 2003, 09:47:37 PM »
Is this a new thing this year, or have I just missed it. My wife pointed it out to me on Sunday, (I flipped to espn during the bucs game commercials).lol. She noticed Geico on a spare ball, then Bayer. Have the pro men been doing this for awhile, and it just never sunk in my thick skull??

I'm not exactly sure how many years they have been doing this, but I just started watching and have caught a few reruns from last year and saw Tommy Jones and Walter Ray throwing an Odor Eaters ball.  Some of the pros are taking part in a team championship, where there are 15 3-man teams, and each member throws a spare ball with a sponsor logo.  The team with the highest point total wins 60 grand.  Here's some more info:

It was sporadic last year (I know Walter Ray used the Order Eater some last year)  but apparently they had Brunswick make up some visa-a-balls for all the major sponsors and having them use them on the show this year.

Someone who has attended an event maybe could tell us if they are using the balls during the week getting to the show.

the brunswick viz-a-balls with the sponsors logos on them were used starting last year. there are pba players that were chosen/asked to me a part of this event. it is set-up as a "team challenge" type of event. i was at the greater kansas city classic several weeks ago the players do use the balls all week and from week to week. the 2003-2004 pba tour guide has a listing of what players are on what teams. rick benoit of brunswick told me that the average person will not be able to order one of these balls.
