Sports shot league week 2
« on: May 20, 2005, 02:48:18 PM »
I figure since a lot of people are posting their sports shot results, I will, too.  I've bowled two weeks on this league so far, and have averaged 178 so far.

Games: 144 190 196 182 182 179 (Yes, missed a triplicate by 3 pins)

Unfortunately, I have been asking the people that run the league what the shot is out on the lane and none of them have been able to provide me with the information.

I know week one, the farther you moved in, the earlier it wanted to move.  Up 11 slow with a good amount of roll on the ball.  Threw Inferno #1 most of the night, which is pictured here:  http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v379/ANamelessNumber6/Equipment/inferno003.jpg

Tonight, I threw my newer inferno, which isn't drilled anything fancy, just to even arc.  I'll get pictures later.

Tonight had a lot more oil on the lanes, and not as even as a reaction as I was getting the week before.  The shot seemed to be a lot more inside, and letting it break under 2 boards on the backend.  Wound up shooting 182-182-179.

The scoring of this league is something unlike anything else I've ever seen in a league.  There are three bowlers on a pair.  Two on the left, and one on the right.  The high score of that game gets 3 points and moves a pair to the right.  Second high score gets 2 points and moves a pair to the left.  Third high score of that game gets 1 point and moves two pairs left.  Interesting... unheard of to me, but it seemed to work well.  That is until a new bowler showed up this week.  That meant that one pair each game had 4 bowlers on it.  So, first game, I bowl with one other person on the pair, because there just so happened to be a prebowl on our pair.  I shoot 182 wringing a 10 pin in the 8th to shut me out, because the prebowl shot a 218.  I wound up missing one spare that game, and it was the first frame, when I sent it 2 boards wide and left a 1-2-4-6-10, and took out the 1-2-4.  So, I move my pair to the left, where I proceed to move way inside.  Standing 2 boards left of the center dot and throwing one board inside 4th arrow.  Still throwing Inferno #2.  I wind up doubling in the 8th and 9th and the guy that was a bit ahead of me went 4-6-7, miss, 4-7-10 miss, 10 pin miss.  So, he shot 156, and was the closest person to my 182.  Missed one spare this game, and it was a 4-6-7.

Now, here's where things got weird.

As I mentioned earlier, the person that won the game moves one pair to the right... correct?

So, I move my pair to the right and I see that the person that got the second high score on the pair is on the same pair, and I give him a "what's going on" look.  I said, "you're on this pair, too?" and he kind of shrugged.  So, I thought that I was on the pair, but then I see a piece of paper (which I think was originally for 19-20, the pair I am currently on, but it was over on 17-18, where I just won the game and it said the winner goes to 21.  So, I don't really care about it much, but then I see that the game on 21-22 is already in their third frame, and there is already two bowlers on lane 21.  So, I tell the guys to hold up a second and go and ask the league director, and he said that the guy coming on tonight screwed everything up, and that since they're in an earlier part of their game, to go to lanes 21 and 22.  So, I have to rush over there and get up there and throw, tried to take my time, but things like this kind of get you out of your zone.  So, I get up there and of course, this pair is a much different shot then the one I should have been on.

I wind up taking the inferno and scooting to where I'm 2 boards right of the last dot throwing across 9 at the arrows.  Couldn't really find a shot the whole game.  6th or 7th frame, I try to go back to my inside line and the ball doesn't even wrinkle getting out to 16.  I wind up shooting 179 and lost to a kid that went open open, four in a row, open spare spare, and my friend on the pair shot 259.

The worst thing is that if I would have bowled on the pair I should have gone to, I would have only had to shoot a 140 to win 3 points.  So, this screw up costs me a total of 2 points in a 14 week league, and the scholarship prize is the best I've ever seen in a league around here, so it didn't settle too well with me.

Anyways, a satisfying night as far as spares and shots went, but discouraging in other factors.

Sorry such a long post.

EDIT:

And also, I mentioned to the league director that that little screw up wound up costing me some points, and he said that he didn't know what to do with that new bowler.  He asked me if I had any suggestions, and I asked that we hold a league meeting next week to find out what we should do, but if you guys have any other suggestions, let me know.
