Suggestion for staff reviews.
« on: March 29, 2018, 09:02:38 AM »
I see a lot of negative comments in staff reviews and I have to admit that I get aggravated when I read a review full of hype and promises only to get to the end and see that it is a staff review. So, I have a suggestion for those people leaving staff reviews. Do an announcement instead of a review, and give us the facts without the hype. Example…

Announcing XXXXX, released today by XXXXX.

XXXXX uses the XXXXX core and XXXXX cover stock and it targeted for dry/medium/heavy oil lanes. It has a XXXXX curve and a XXXXX hook. The action is close to our XXXXX ball but with more/less XXXXX. Our goal was to create a ball that is forgiving/transfers a lot of energy to the pins/is very accurate in the hands of an experienced player/etc…

Give us the facts. Give us the intent. Give us the targeted market. If people get this information, you increase the chance that the right people buy the ball, are happy with it, and leave their own positive reviews.

I can take the criticism, is this close? (Venom Shock Pearl review a few months ago)

Description: The Venom Shock Pearl is the 6th installment in the Venom series and again placed in the lower mid-price range. There is a modification from the Gear Core used in the original Venom Shock, it now has the Top Gear Core. A dual density core which slightly lowered the RG from a 2.48 to 2.47, also used in the Venom Cobra. The Venom Shock Pearl uses a new version of the Hexion
Coverstock, (MFP) medium friction pearl.

Reaction: The original Venom Shock is one of my favorite balls, ever. With that being said I am excited to have a cleaner and faster responding one, yet with similar overall hook potential as the Venom Shock. The Venom Shock Pearl hasn’t disappointed me…even with the slightly lower RG Top Gear core it doesn’t seem to lack length and creates great entry angle when the Venom Shock is too smooth. The Venom Shock Pearl has great continuation as well as that great carry that the Venom line is known for. So far, this ball has allowed me to play closer to the oil line on house patterns, it doesn’t force me too deep and the best part is I don’t see that over reaction when it hits frictions because I am a little straighter.

Comparisons: Visually it’s very clear in the differences between the original Venom Shock and Venom Shock Pearl. The Venom Shock clearly starts up sooner and doesn’t respond as fast to friction, if anything the Venom Shock is only stronger due to the difference in out of the box surface. Next, the Lethal Paranoia is similar in length, but provides an even faster response to friction and more hook potential in the oil. I also did a quick surface adjustment with 3000 Abralon to the Venom Shock Pearl, it was noticeably earlier and rounder, but it still provided more shape down lane than a Venom Shock.

Summary: The Venom Shock is a ball that just has always seemed to make the bag no matter what, honestly there are a lot of days I have two. I think the Venom Shock Pearl will also being making the bag no matter what from now on and will become a better option than two original Venom Shocks. This really is that ball that if you loved the original Venom Shock (as most did) you will want this for a great combination.

MOTIVmags,

I wouldn't hesitate to say you are probably the last staff reviewer at whom this criticism is aimed. The other 999 will probably never read this.

Agreed. The peoplw that need to hear the criticism probably won't read this. They don't actually care, they're just trying to fufill requirements.

Agreed. (We need a thumbs up sign, or I need to know where it is. :) )

I'm tossing this at the reviewers that tell me nothing I need to know, and spout a bunch of hype.

Oh, and MOTIVmags, that was a very nice and timely review. After a lot of recommendations here, yesterday I ordered a Venom Shock and a Hy Road. It is nice to see the comparison between the Venom Shock and the VS Pearl.

By the way, why is the original Venom Shock so hard to find? My pro shop and the first two online shops I checked were out. My pro shop special ordered mine. Is production winding down, or do they just sell out because they are popular?

No, no Mags, you are one of the good ones. When I see one of your reviews where you hype the ball a bit, I know it's truth(for your game), not because it's "your job". Same with Justin. You two guys don't "put down" balls that aren't great for you of course, but I can tell the ones you really like.

Keep up the good work Justin and MotivMags. You are much appreciated.

I was just making sure that the reviews I write are useful. Not looking to knock others or get recognition. I think reviews need to be based on the data the ball gives you, not the coined phrases we hear all too often!

Well and unlike most, you actually come back to check on the comments and questions, you aren't just dumping a review here every time a ball comes out and walking away to fulfill contract requirements . . been a big fan of your stuff for a while.

Mike Magolian is a good example of what a good staffer doing reviews should be doing. Props dude.
Of course Luke is amazing as what he does as well, as kicks it up a few more notches.

For 90% of the other staff reviews I see...there is no way any of these guys graduated high school. The sentence structure is whack!
In the bag [Infinite Physix, Volatility Torque, Night Road, Phaze III, Burner Solid, Hustle AU]
