issues with deadly aim
« on: September 10, 2014, 02:15:14 PM »
Have the Aim drilled pin above ring finger, cg kicked slightly out, MB about inch from thumb....Right now I have it at 1500 with no polish. On any decent amount of oil the ball doesnt finish, always hits light and it does carry a lot of the light hits....but its getting frustrating. I have a weight hole near the pap (sorry i dont know the specs) but the pro shop guy told me if they made the hole bigger the ball will read the lane earlier. Or take it 1000 with a small amount of polish... Any suggestions? plug and re drill?

Im done with hammer, was thinking BW legend but I'm thinking theres a lot of better balls out there. The Deadly Aim....I do have some big games with it and it carries most of the light hits BUT tired of seeing it NOT finish. Its to strong for a light oiled pattern and not strong enough on medium or heavy. I had a few Hammer balls over the years but sad to say it ends with this one. Like someone else said...got an entry level ball at a high end price.

I think what you are seeing with the Deadly Aim might be that this ball is a very strong rolling piece (EARLY), and the backends are very controllable. This is NOT a heavy oil ball, and is perfect for the medium patterns to control the backends with this ball...

The new Legend however is ALL about backend motion, very different to the Aim series. The Aim series is a very different motion for the Hammer line than what bowlers are used to seeing in our line. I'm sorry you had some issues with this ball, but don't count out the other Hammer product due to this experience with this ball.

Let me know if you have any questions regarding the Hammer brand products!

Try 360 or 500 with compound. The Deadly Aim is a medium oil ball so that may give it the underlying teeth the ball needs but not burn up in the fronts.

I have had the same issues with this ball finishing weak. I drilled it myself, then altered the surface many times, then added a balance hole; still weak. As far as I'm concerned, I have an entry level ball with a high performance price. Now I'm gun-shy about buying the BW Legend.

I didn't like the spiders when they came out initially, and I mean all of them, from the original BW, to the Pearl, Spare, Bite, Nasty, Danger, all of them. But then again, I was firmly ensconced in Ebonite as I went all in with the Total NV, Complete NV, Mission, etc.

Came back to Hammer with the First Blood. I thought it definitely didn't work as advertised, until I realized that I intentionally went with a weaker drill than I realized. But that worked out as it made for a great down and in shot. Cold blood worked beautifully. Have it in my bag still.

Absolut Curve and Deadly Aim, not so much. As weak as my FB was, it still outperformed my Absolut Curve, and it was drilled strong. Same with the Deadly Aim, as it was supposed to complement the Pivot I bought.

Over the summer, traded both of them in, and followed Plowboy's advice and finally got bit by the spider. BW Legend and Absolut Flip. Both are absolutely phenomenal balls, with the BW Legend in particular. The shape and motion that ball has is spot on with how Doug Kent's original BW looked when he won that major on the tour.

I think my problem with the Deadly Aim was what everyone here was saying: it's a different looking ball from what we are used to and are expecting, and I just didn't give it more of a chance. If I can find a hole in my arsenal for it, I may try to slot it in again, but again, the problem with the Deadly Aim is me, not the ball.
