« on: January 26, 2011, 04:21:48 AM »
If you where able to change anything about bowling what would u change?

The one thing of serveral I will list later :-)  will be the constant price increase each year..  Prices are increasing but I am seeing less improvement in my center and the sport...

I would change the sentiment of the bowler.  I would have bowlers strive to become what they truly could instead of owners throwing out such easy house shots where accuracy isn't essential.  The attitude of "I just wanna drink and score" would be much less and the attitude of "I want to work to score b/c I take pride in scoring on these conditions".  That would require the elimination of ego's which we all know is impossible.  BUT, the game would be better.

I would change the ball specs.

1. Limit the frictional capabilities of the coverstock material
2. Limit the differential to .025

3. Limit the porosity

4. Minimum hardness of 80

5. NO "GRANDFATHER" CLAUSE.

I would NOT  do away with resin, but I would limit it to much finer parameters than today. Basically, the strongest ball allowed would be akin to the teal rhino of the past. Still revolutionary, but limited.

Jug and Goodtimes... Nice ideas... But I wonder if they would fly with anyone under 25...

I think bowlers over 50 to 60 wouldn't mine...  But I 'm not so sure about the young crowd...They like to grip it and rip it, and need area...

We are speaking in hypotheticals.

I blame the Grip and Rip'ers

No synthetic approaches.

The 3 unit rule.  It legalized lane blocking.

Weight of the pins.  I'd make them slightly heavier by a few ounces so they'd be harder to knock over.  That would change the ability to score from light pocket swishers to a more solid perfect entry angle to knock all 10 down.

I'd get rid of much of the ball technology that's come out in the past 5 years. The rapid rise of people throwing 300/800 goes hand in hand with advancements in ball tech. I think it's borderline cheating. I use this technology to keep up with the rest of the league but I'd be perfectly happy throwing a Brunswick Slingshot or a Storm Natural type ball as my one and only ball.

The ability of the lane man to determine a style/winner.

Preferably by producing a lane surface that required no lane conditioner and such that if a foreign substance was put on the lane it would make scoring more difficult.

I would change "WAHSAM" if it's in your bowling center it needs to go.  We don't need help to inflating our averages, the high performance balls are enough.  If you don't know what "WAHSAM" is check out video on you tube. You may be surprised..
