the dishwasher..?!?!
« on: October 15, 2003, 04:34:59 PM »
Ive been reading about putting your bowling ball in the dishwasher. And it seemed like a real good idea. "sweating" is what they call it, and when the dishwasher stopped i was getting real happy that my ball would be "out of the box" condition. But when i looked at my ball it was a different color. What the @#$% happen. Someone get back to me on this.

PS. i have a raging inferno, and now my ball is purple and white.?!?!

too hot!!!???

that would be my guess.........Iv'e seen people take their balls out of their trunk on a warm day, and there is hazing on them.....from being in the warm trunk, ..so my assumption is that it was caused by the heat.........

Did you turn off, disengage the drying cycle? That provides extra drying heat. If not, then .... possible troubles.

The ball IS a purple pearl, with some light, vague white swirling.

Don't worry about it. Most likely it's just some of the coloring coming out of the resin. The combination of hot water and detergent bleached the ball out some. Did you throw it yet? I bet it works better even if it is not as purdy

I don't think my wife would be very happy if I tried to put my bowling ball inside her while she was standing in front of the sink!! LOL - Sorry, I know it's bad, but I couldn't resist!

Seriously though, be careful of how much heat you expose the ball to.  I've heard of people having them split from "baking" them in the oven, and recently have seen the disastrous results of a ball that was set beside a wood stove.  I have soaked a ball in hot water (just hot from the tap, not boiled or anything) with reasonable success.
