If this has been discussed before, I apologize. But I got into a discussion the other night with a friend. He thinks that todays PBA players would dominate bowling in the 60's and 70's. I do not feel that way.

If they were to throw the same equipment and same style, I feel the Anthony/Webber would still be dominate. What do you all think?

I would also like to see a tournament where todays PBA players would use a rubber ball. It would all be in fun. Hence the PBA SKILLS CHALLENGE and the PBA ALL-STAR SHOOTOUT. (I know that there is money on the line for the shootout though.)

I believe that many of today’s top players would have been very good in that era as well.

Talent is talent in any era and they would find a way to be good.

This is assuming that they would have grown up and developed games that worked on those conditions and equipment.

Whether they would dominate is hard to say.

I believe Walter Ray with his accuracy would be good in any time frame.

when chris barnes and robert smith were on team usa together in the early 1990's, they competed in a plastic ball tournament. one of them shot a 300 game and both shot over 1,000 for 4 games. i think talent would prevail in the longrun.

Yesterdays players were dead accurate, but the new breed of the PBA is dead accuracy with power, versatility, and lane smarts.  In the Roth/Anthony/Weber Era I think it's almost a no contest if a player like Barnes, Mika, Jones, Couch would be able to dominate that era of bowling.  The game has evolved in such a way that it's almost impossible to compare the bowlers, but on short oils and plastic balls the aforementioned players would still be able to kill those types of patterns with the modern release.

Funny how we are only talking about phyiscal aspects. That statement is constantly made that bowling is more "between the ears" than physical the more your skill improves. I believe EVERY great bowler would be GREAT in any era PERIOD and physical skills not withstanding.
