Tough games, series ... hear some stories
« on: November 25, 2003, 07:32:00 AM »
Everyone gets proud of their 300's/800's, several 700's in a row, etc. and there's nothing wrong with that and you deserve credit.  But I'd like to start another topic.

Are there any TOUGH games/series, where you REALLY earned a modest-good score, without having your good stuff with you that night?  For example, having to put the last 5 strikes together at the end of EVERY game to bowl a 700, making 3 splits to bowl a 200, stuff like this.

I can start it off with a few that stick out to me in my mind:

1) 8 spares in a row, back four strikes to shoot 206
2) bowling a 410 or so for two games making 11 ten pins
3) saving a clean game making a 4-6-7 split

Let's hear yours.
Nate

I shot a 602 clean.
That's NOT a lot of strikes.

i recently shot a 622 with two shots out of the pocket. One was an eight count. two opens 1 in my second game and one in my last. i had about 18 9 counts. 11 of them were damn ten pins. everything else was a strike. thats a tough 620 series. 0ne 8 count and the rest 9's or strikes.

Well, i have a couple of these stories in my time lol.

on a tuesday nite league i was bowling in, for the last month of the season, i was clean, no opens, yet didnt shoot anything over 630, or anything under 590. lol

On the same league, a year ago, i start out shooting 150, and was totally lost, yet the last two games i had 22 outa 24 strikes, and the two opens being splits, and still shot over 650 lol.

Now last yr, a team mate of mine shot something like 650, clean, and i never seen so many freakin 10pins or 9pins lol.  i mean it made me ill, so see this guy rip the pocket all nite and leave over 15 combined 10pins and 9pins.

The two that stand out in my mind in this category, would be grinding out a 605 set at nationals this past year in Knoxville for my first 600 series at ABC's.  That was a lot of spares, with a couple of doubles thrown in here and there, and pulling out a couple of 200 games in my first PBA regional after a disastorous start.  Was beginning to doubt myself a bit after the first couple of games, but thanks to that finish, I'm looking forward to my next regional, and improving my skill on those types of shots.

Bowled in a tourney one time left 17 ten pins in a 3 game set. Threw 8 strikes in game didn't shot 200 damn 7-10 splits. Bowled in a tourney two weeks ago left 3 stone 5 pins in on set shot 201 and had to pick up the 6-7-10 to get a shot @ the 200

Monday I had my best game ever. Not score wise just mentally.
On 20 I was bang on strikes all along, on 19 all spares, splits and washouts. Totally different lanes.
I needed a double on 19 to win and I mean I was really stuggling.
Mind set: This is going in the pocket and delivering. Bang strike, bang strike then 8 to win by 4. It was only a 188 game but it felt like a 250.
