Tournament Software
« on: January 23, 2012, 08:26:51 AM »
Hey Guys, I run a few small tournaments in our area. Small potatos, but without them there would not be much of that type of action available here. I don't want to seem cheap but I need freeware type software to run these tournaments. We don't make anything from these and all of the entry money goes to lineage and prize fund. So you can see the problem. No money unless it comes from my pocket. So if anyone can turn me on to a freebie it would be much appreciated.

You should just develop your own excel file to do what you want to do.  If you want to have brackets, there is a free one developed by one of the members here.

But if you need something to rank your bowlers as the games progress, excel would be relatively easy to use.

I am not a pro-bowler, but I do play one on BallReviews.com

Yes excel is perfectly good to keep up with standings, averages, and a +/- leaderboard.  If you have a hard time I can ask my buddy for a copy of what he developed, it printed out a very professional looking standing sheet, and if you didn't know ahead of time you would think it was a purchased program.

I ran a weekly tournament thru out my state for over ten years.  I created an excel spreadsheet for the prize money and used word for the standings.  My biggest turnout for 1 holiday weekend (3 1/2 days) was 324 entries and I had no problems. Of course, I had my wife helping me.

I also ran brackets with a home made excel spreadsheet that a friend made.  Worked fantastic.

I wasn't trying to be cheap, but I could not find any purchased program that worked better.

Good Luck

Okay I have started to create my own EXCEL sheet for a tournament. I into the Brackets of this. Now is there some kind of method when you are dealing with several people getting into to several brackets. It seems you wouldn't want these bowlers facing each other in the first game in multiple brackets.

Any ideas?

Remember, anything you do for yourself dies with you, but anything you do for someone else lives on for ever.
