TWOHAND834 and Charlest
« on: September 22, 2015, 11:40:35 AM »
I'm looking for some feedback on my collegiate arsenal. I currently have a
Respect (stacked layout)
Marvel Pearl (pin under ring cg kicked slightly out w p2 weight hole)
T-Road Solid (stacked layout)
Ride (100x1 7/8 x48)
My teammate recommended a Haywire (pin down) and to also get something for the burn (heads gone and defined friction spots)
I've been told it gets pretty ugly and often times the best option is to loft it and get it out (depending on pattern of course)
I would give more insight on my PAP if I knew it specifically, but it's around 5 inches with an up coordinate. Obviosly if I can still play right, the Ride would be my ball of choice. However, it won't be my best option when it's time to get inside. What balls should I be looking at? I prefer it to be a Storm or Roto grip ball, but I am not ruling other choices out. The Hy-Road Pearl, Unhinged, Sky Rocket, and Punch Out are the first few balls that come to mind. I'm closer to matched speed and revs when I move inside and I would change whatever is needed for proper ball reaction. Also it is worth noting that the Respect and Marvel Pearl are not polished.
League: Pitch Purple, Destiny Magenta
Testing: MVP
Interests: Black Widow, Proof Solid, Idol Pearl

AMF Xcite with a long pin to pap. Same ball as the Hooks and one of the most underrated balls ever.

I believe his university is Storm only.

When getting in deep, some people like to use weaker balls while others like to go stronger.  I am in the stronger camp and for me, I would probably lean to the Hyper Cell Skid or Unhinged from RG.  Storm has the Optimus (even roll), IQ Tour Pearl (low Rg) and the Crux Pearl (rolly), but I personally would prefer the RG equipment since I feel they might be better suited for playing really deep.  Last time I saw Belmo playing super deep he was using a Critical Theory.

Eventually you will have to ball down, and that is where I think Storm's Hyroad Pearl or Sky Rocket will be useful.

It depends on how much dry you're talking about. If you have to play truly deep (4th - 5th arrows), the usual drilling is 5" to 5.5" pin-PAP (around pin over ring finger to pin over the center of the grip, sometimes using a P# weight hole.
Something like the Ride or the step about it, the Punch Out could be the ball you need. The exact ball depends on the actual broken down pattern, its length, amount of carrydown,  etc.

Heck, I've heard of some ferociously dry college patterns where a Tropical Breeze or a urethane may be needed. I have no idea exactly how much dry you may face.

If you already have a Ride (but that drilling is not usually used to play an inside line), you may want to try a Punch Out. The AMF Xcite or the 900G Boost is roughly equivalent to the Punch Out, as far as I know.

If you do have to play very deep, often a ball with a pretty strong backend is needed, unless you're playing a Fade shot (the ball goes no further outside than 13-15 at the breakpoint and does a small flip into the pocket).

New Hammer Urethane for the burn (old school shell on a new core)
works great, no hook-stop like the previous versions
