Urethane-Like
« on: February 02, 2016, 02:19:20 PM »
Currently I am mostly throwing urethane only on most house shots. However, every once in awhile the lanes will play just a little long. When this happens, I have a hard time getting either urethane to roll into the pocket how I want. I was curious if there was a mild/weak reactive that would give a urethane-like reaction. (side note: I generally do not do well with pin under drillings so would like to eliminate that as an option before it gets brought up). Any and all opinions/suggestions welcome.

Tried to use Motiv Rebel Tank urethane on a very dry pattern did not work to early or strong . Move to a pin up  Motiv  Ascent Apex and it worked just fine. Try it you will score.

Hammer Arson low flare is pretty weak
And FYI, pin up or pin down doesn't have that great of an effect on the motion

surface is the number 1 factor that determines ball motion, followed by pin distance from PAP. layout and core strength are down the list

I took a Storm Tropical Breeze Pearl, drilled it pin under ring (sorry), and put the surface at 500 grit. For me, that gives me a very urethane-like reaction out of a reactive piece. I usually use that as my spare ball, but it can definitely be used to go straight and/or to combat dry lanes.

you can also try an 1 1/2 or 2 Inch Pin from your PAP and put the CG under your palm, straight across from your pin with a low end reactive. Will give you that Urethane type reaction with a little more continuation at the pins.

I would say drill up a Radical Rack Attack solid and drill it with a 2 inch pin to pap.  That will give you the reaction that you are looking for.

I agree with Jim by using a reactive resin ball with a weaker layout, you can get a urethane like roll but more backend motion and higher carry percentage. I would suggest using a 90 x 2" x 45 dual angle layout on a Radial Rack Attack.

I will also throw my suggestion to the Rack Attack Solid as well. Smooth and predictable. Best ball for the buck in my opinion.

I have a Loco, but the Rack Attack Solid is essentially the same ball. Both great pieces for the designed purposes.

I have a loco solid drilled with the pin 2" fom pap. That with my rebel tank make a good 1,2 combo.
