« on: December 02, 2014, 03:34:34 PM »
during leagues. how many of you or know someone that does this?

lately balls be returing from the belts all black skid marked...

I find these marks on my track and im not sure if it really affects ball reaction, but it's starting to bug me mentally..

if you use cleaners during leagues, how often?

I use the powerhouse cleaner during league play when my ball comes back with one of the black skidmarks on it. Somehow, it's always in my track.

Milo, has anyone ever approached you about it? I know it's legal to use cleaners, but many bowlers don't know that. They may think someone is cheating by using cleaners lol...just wondering...

if you did that while bowling against me, that ball would be in your bag the rest of the night.

There are cleaners approved for use DURING play, and others designed and approved for before or after only.  Therein lies the difference.

That's funny/ironic.
I started carrying copies of that segment of the USBC rule book dealing with cleaning your ball during play. I knew some of the old timers would doubt the legality of it and the lanes where we were bowling had started having disintegrating belts that usually put those black marks on balls.

Sure enough, some guy started yelling at me that I can't do that. Even after I showed him the paperwork, he still didn't really believe it.

I use LMB international cleaner (formerly known as Lane Master cleaner) to clean those marks off. I only do that when they appear. Otherwise I wait until bowling was over to clean my balls.

That's why I use Powerhouse, when one of them starts making a stink, I just point to the label.

Besides, if they get their panties in a twist over me cleaning my ball with a legal to use cleaner, that means I will win the point 9 times out of 10.

I use Rx and Kevin (owner) mentioned that he uses it too during leagues, but I could be mistaken.

A couple weeks ago I got called out for using some cleaner at the start of game 2, by my own teammate. I was just giving my ball a quick wipe down at the table, he says to the group, "I smell citrus". I said yea it's this cleaner (Powerhouse). He said you can't use that, at first I thought he was joking. So I explained the rules, my rule book was at home, never again. He still didn't believe me, I showed him the bottle pointed out the approval on the label, then he said "I am pretty sure that's not what that means, you can't use it". I told him I wasn't  going to argue it, but what I was doing was perfectly fine. Then he says " Well I don't think anyone saw you so it's okay, just put it away". I left it on the table, and continue to put it on the table every week.

While this was going on the other three teammates were just listening with a confused look on there faces. They started passing the bottle around and reading it. I then asked don't you guys clean your gear? They all shook their heads no. One spoke up and said he uses that thing, and made a motion with his hands (see saw). I thought OMG what am I dealing with. LOL

Like Charlest, I carry a copy of the approved cleaners as I have been challanged at times of the legality of my cleaning my ball during competition. Also show them my Remedy RX bottle where it says it is legal.

I have just recently begun using the Masters Leather Pad to wipe my ball each time I get up to bowl, so I no longer use the ball cleaner during competition unless it gets black marks on it.

After using the Masters Pad during 3 game set, I use Remedy RX to give ball a final cleaning and believe it or not, after cleaning my ball with the cleaner and a microfiber towel when done bowling having done this 7 times now since getting the Pad, my towel remains clean as if it was just washed, thus the Pad works even better than advertised.
