I was having a pretty in depth debate during our end of league meeting with our league secretary about what would be the best way to throw the ball nowadays. We used the example of Walter Ray vs No Thumb.

I said that based on longevity and winning, I would still want to throw like Walter Ray. James said that he would probably want to throw no-thumb, or more likely two handed, since the modern scoring pace seemed to benefit that kind of release.

Just wondered what everyone else thought, and what you would pick?

Walter Ray... you can always throw down the ten board and the core alone will bring the ball to the pocket.

WRW Jr. has bowled no thumb too. Just not competitively I heard. I think when he was on TV awhile back and he threw 1 shot two handed. That was after the match had already been decided. I could be wrong(wouldn't be the first time.) lol.

I hate to differ from all those that responded so far .. but .. if I could throw as accurately as Belmonte I'd prefer his style. In the next few years I think Belmonte will be winning quite a bit ..

I am thinking that people thought this about Tommy Jones too....not knocking your logic...but this is dependent on his body holding up...which history shows it won't do into his 40s and 50s.

Don't get me wrong. Belmonte throws it well with one hand, but the 2 hands thing, when he gets older, is going to be rough.

I figure the amount of torque going across Belmo's body has to be taking more of a toll on his back than anything. So WRW all the way.

WRWJr for sure. He doesn't throw the ball just one way. Very few pros do. His style and ability is the reason he can play any lane condition, inside or out, and score. That says it all for me. Same for players like Norm Duke. That is why they are so competitive for so long on so many different conditions.

Belmo is a pro no doubt. I laughed when bowling on ESPN was hyping Belmo and interviewing all the pros and PDW and others were saying how this is the new revolution of bowling. Well it has yet to develop and I think it will be another niche in bowling just like the style it copies of using no thumb and one arm to bowl.

Line wise, WRW. Stylewise, neither. Both are freaks of nature, mutants, one of a kind and it would take the average joe shmoe a lot of practice and coaching to be able to accurately repeat shots using those styles. Not that its impossible, just hard to do.
