Water Bath Problems....
« on: February 24, 2008, 11:26:43 AM »
Hello. Ive decided to give my ball a water bath after not cleaning if for a little while. It seemed to work just fine. When I took my ball out after a few runs, I set it to dry. After 2 days though, it does not seem that it has lost any extra water weight. Should I be worried about this or should I just give it more time? Thanks in advance

How did you determine the "water weight"?

Well I knew how heavy the ball was before hand, as I bowl with it often. I determined water weight by the extra weight that I can feel is in the ball. I am assuming it is water weight, because, well....what else could it be.

Get a saw and try to cut 'weep' lines in it like they tried at the Nascar race yesterday.

I assume you're joking, sir. You've got to add the smiley face.

Unless you're Superman, or have some special gift that God gave you that he/she did not give the rest of us, this method of weighing is highly unreliable.

If you said you weight the ball before bathing it and afterwards, then you might still be wrong because it would not account for the oil removed by the heat of the hot water.

Some 16 lb balls become illegal because they weight more than 16 lbs after absorbing oil for several years. That is a fact, not up for discussion.

Its not like it is a small amount of weight. It is a pretty large difference. Ive came to these boards because I have seen in the past the good advice you have to offer, but I get this? Why? Can someone actually give me some good information.

the advice they are trying to give you

no way your ball pick up so much water weight you can tell by picking the ball up by hand

I have a dodo scale

i have used the water soak method with over a 100 balls

they have never-i say never picked up so much weight you will be able to tell by picking it up

sorry-but true

you are looking for answer than isnt feasible-sorry

Exactly how long did you leave it in the water?

Nater, Put it on a scale. That's the best advice at this point.  Then come back.  Just saying you pick the ball up & it feels heavier just doesn't cut it.  Maybe you do have this special gift, but it could just be subconsciously that it feels heavier.  Heck, I've gone to league some nights & pull the ball out of my bag & it feels 5 lbs heavier, lol, but the ball didn't change weight, I just felt weaker until I got warmed up.  Other times I pick the ball up & it feels like a feather.  It's just nature, dude.
