Weight of spare ball

Someone in my league said when you use a spare ball it should be lighter than your other balls.  It needs to deflect more he said.  Is this true?

A spare ball typically should be the same weight as your others, Because having a different weight could affect your timing.

Most who use a lighter spare ball, do so because they are looking for a little extra speed not deflection.

This seems like one of those holy war topics.  I would agree your spare should be the same except about a decade ago I bought my 14lb plastic spare ball for some reason I don't remember (took long layoff since then).  Since I have gotten use to it I have to say am definitely more accurate with the lighter ball.  Currently trying to build up my strength so that this isn't the case here in a few months hopefully.  Middle aged but too young to accept I should be using 14lb for everything.  Doubt I will replace that ball unless it breaks though.  Really do love how it feels.

My spare ball is 1 pound lighter, and has been for roughly 10 years now.

In my case I have two reasons:  1)  Yes, I do want more deflection for that dreaded 3-10 split, and 2)  Because I'm using it to knock down very few pins (usually one) so I figure less wear and tear on my hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder, legs, over a lifetime of bowling...   Timing is not, nor has it been, an issue with me because I'm not trying to throw it harder.  To each his own though.
