What does my PAP tell me?
« on: May 13, 2008, 03:03:32 PM »
my ball driller said my PAP is 4 7/8 right and 13/16 up. I've been told that I am a low track player. Anything else you can tell from my PAP?

Thats a pretty normal PAP. For most pros are say 5" over and 0- 1/2" up or down. Now my track is considered low. My PAP is 3 3/8" over and 1 5/8" up. My track is very unique but the roll and the way my ball reads the mids looks normal. Consider trying to map your own balls out from now on keeping this in mind. The best layouts for house shots are keeping the pin between 4 to 5 inches from your PAP. Hope this helps, John

Somewhat controversial statement here that I'd like some ball drillers to chime in on, for discussion: In order to get the clearest picture, we need not just the PAP, but the circumference coverage -- yes or no?

Reason I mention that is that I have a PAP of 4 over 3/8 up, yet I cover quite a bit of the ball. But some people tell me I have a "spinner's PAP." I don't spin it.

My wife is a low-tracker, though, and does spin the ball, and she's not that far off my PAP numbers.

Is this something we're overlooking in regards to layouts that we shouldn't be?

Do you mean "track diameter"? From that you can derive the tilt.

If you have a large track diameter, with a 4" PAP, you're probably just turning it very early. Not a good habit. I do it also, too often.

You should take into consideration: ball speed, tilt, rotation angle and rev rate, as well as PAP.

charlest,

I don't feel as if I'm turning it that early, but I can't say for sure that I'm not. If anything, I turn it late (ask Ron C. about trying to get me to adjust my timing I loft it too much for his tastes) I probably don't trigger it until I'm at my ankle or even beyond.

I know I'm not alone in doing this (the oft-mentioned Michael Fagan and his PAP of less than 4 inches, etc.). I drill my own stuff now, but when I'd go in and tell drillers in the past what my PAP was, they'd start looking at low-tracker drillings and those don't work for me at all.

on the 06 columbia 300 classic chris barnes said that his axis 3 1/2 inches over, and hes got a low track but his ball covers a large circumference.
