What I have learned
« on: March 01, 2005, 06:28:46 AM »
from this season, I have taken in that bowling it can be cruel. I have experienced great joys and disappointments. A lot of what I have taken in is a lesson in humble manor. Great bowlers are not rewarded for their greatness all the time and I actually had the audacity(sorry for the spelling) to consider myself a good bowler. A great bowler is versatile. A great bowler can perform on the shot at hand and play the lanes the way they are to be played. I have gained more respect for bowlers who play the lanes as necessary than someone who creates their own wall by staying in one spot and throwing a ball until the shot opens to their game.
I have learned to never stop working at your game because there is always room for improvement and that it is ok to be cocky, however, there is a difference between competitive cockiness and blind arrogance. I will admit that I let my personal feeling destroy the great love that I have for the game, however, I will never let that happen again. I am rededicating myself to the game I enjoy and I not going to let anything stop me from getting bettering myself. I took in what everyone had to say about my game and at the end of the day I learned a lot, however, I did not apply what I learned to my game. Instead, I kept with the my way works routine and that got me nowhere except to more frustration and heartache.
I write this forum, not looking for recognition, but, to apologize for letting my pride taint my love for the game and to teach and educate those who still have to learn this lesson of humility. Don't let your pride destroy the love you hold dear for this game that we all eat, sleep, live, and breath. Instead, swallow that pride and take what the lanes give you. Learn from it and grow into the great bowlers you are intended to be. Don't fall into the "help those that can't help themselves" category. I just felt I needed to educate my brethren on this site of the dangers of letting your pride take control of your game. Thank you for listening to me vent, and Good Luck to those who won't stop working and who live this wonderful sport.
