What if Traber lost weight?
« on: February 25, 2007, 03:09:45 PM »
Not to rip on the guy at all: don't get any bad impressions.  I'm just wondering if his balance, and therefore his game, might improve if he were to lose weight.  What's your opinion on this issue?

Well, that turned into a flame-fest pretty quick.  Seriously though, being overweight to that level has to affect one's style.  If one that heavy were to lose weight, would his/her game improve?

Personally, I think his mechanics would be a lot better if he dropped 30-50 lbs.  I'm no expert in comparison to some of you, but I think his approach and plant at the line looks uncomfortable because of his "structural imbalance".

There are no points for style. Yeah he may be over weight and has been probably his entire adult life, but I can only wish I had 35 regional titles...9

just because chris is not on tour doesnt mean anything..there are alot of reasons great bowlers arent on tour, im not saying hes a great bowler, i dont even know him...family, money are a few reasons..i speak from experience...and yea he does throw the ball terrible, all you have to do is open your eyes to see this..it is effective but not what you would teach someone to do, and i understand everyone has their on style..jmo

Actually I was impressed with how solid he seemed at the line despite his girth.

Mike Mineman didn’t impress me with his release either but he did what he needed to do to win.

The Traber’s have very similar styles. It makes me feel like they’re styles are a result of the environment they learn to bowl in.

They are good bowlers on anything but when the shot is outside in their wheelhouse you have to look out.

I wish more and more people on here would see this commment.  style doesnt mean jack, you chicken wing it, short arm it, spin it stroke it, crank it, who really cares it is all about repeating shots and repeating shots and carrying is how you do it.  The score board does not discriminate and take pins off for poor style or balance or looks

Get over it

Man I am so tired about reading all the Traber fat posts. WHO cares if he is fat.. He does have a different style but he an exempt bowler on the PBA tour and has 30 something regional titles... I bet thats a resume alot of the Dale Traber bashers would like to have..

The guy (Mineman)that won yesterday will not get many style points either, but he won a PBA tournament..

Oh yea, I am not vene gonna waste my breath commenting on the poster that said:
"He wins, but he's not that good" I was just curious how many regional titles that poster has??

He does not throw a spinner. That statement proves what little you know about Dale or the game of bowling.

He needs to lose weight if nothing more than for health reasons. As far as style goes, remember the closest distance between to points is a straight line!

Back to the original topic/question...it is also entirely possible that there would be problems maintaining the success with a significant loss of weight.  Not everyone who has to potentially undo 20 or so years of a particular style fares well with a new style even if it is just minor tweaks to the game to adjust for something like loss of weight.

As to style...who cares?  There are lots of people who can hook the lane but don't do anything with it in terms of wins.  Given the choice of classic style or 35 regional banners and a handful of TV shows, I would gladly step to the line for the banners and shows.  It isn't the style that gets the job done- it is the consistency with which one plies that style, and say what you will about the Brothers Traber, WRW, Haugen, the Brothers Scroggins and a host of others- if they are nothing else, they are generally consistent.
