What Kind Of Shoot Does Your House Have
« on: July 26, 2007, 04:46:56 AM »
Currently for the summer and also part of the last Fall my House in AMF Desoto doesnt have a clean backend and everybody is stuck on the right hand side trying to find something..  The only dry board on the sides is about the 5 board but you can forget about the ball running back..  Not sure what they are going to do for this Fall..

A house shot is typically a house shot..  Oil ten to ten dry outside..  Stand left throw right and hope you carry..  Tug it in and the oil will push it down the lane, ditch it out and the dry boards will rebound it to the pocket.   I don't really know what type of replies you are looking for..

Our house?  I would call it a jacked up shot.  It's rumoured that the machine doesn't properly oil the center of the lanes and that there has been years of neglected as well.  Bowling in our house will knock a person's average down 20-25 pins compared to other houses with a THS pattern.

There's a center by my house that puts out the USBC Nationals shot( at summer rates $4.00/HR.) Man you want to talk about a CHALLENGE!!!! Just try shooting on that after you have kids throwing polyester balls!!! The only way I find the pocket is to wear a spot outside of five(I might actually hit that mark 1 out of 10 times) and hopefully your ball has enough energy to carry or straight up 15 and I mean straight too.LOL!!!! Miss hit it or throw it too hard or too easy and you wind with multiple pin conversions. I really like the challenge though and if you really want to identify your weak points it does just that.

Lots of oil from about 8 board to 8 board, and nice backends typically.  On fresh shot most guys start out playing straighter for at least 3-4 games, then they gradually start to open up.  The lane oil is very good stuff that holds up better than anything we've used for years.

Long...feels like 40 feet. Tonight wasn't super heavy like it has felt but still seems long. Previously they were puddling the lane. Outside of 7 is out of bounds unless you have alot of hand or soft speed. Lefthanders can throw it anywhere on the lane and they carry the world though. For the righthanders, playing inside is difficult unless you play  really deep and aim for the center of the lane. I generally stand as right as possible on 10 or 15 and aim 39 feet down the lane at 5-7, a pretty direct shot.No stripping ever on our league nights. The Shark and Scorpion pattern are easier.

Then I practice at an AMF and I feel like a professional there because it seems so easy.

My club house has, after last league season ended, applied a shorter apttern: 37-38' long, 22 units of oil total. Gutter to gutter, BUT the oil is heavily concentrated in the middle in a fat tongue, and in the 12-10th board area is a sharp edge - the outside is buffed up to the gutter. When fresh, this thing is quite tricky, since the lane surface is quite slick, even though I cannot play strong balls there effectively due to the pattern length. Once transition starts or with high humidity, this pattern becomes hell, finding and keeping a line is pretty difficult.

In the neighboring town they applied a similar pattern, but the surface has much more grip in the backend. Without notice, I also ran recently in a real short pattern there, must have been less than 30'...

Here they lay out the same as usual (38 THS with "only" 19 ml of oil (40 ?units? per board)... see picutre here:http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/59/5585759/1400_3336343063316362.jpg

The pattern is never changed... and hasn't since 2005..

but as weather is hot this summer and then it is rather cold again.. the lane conditioner is moving more quickly when hot or not when cold.. onto the backend creating a bit more carrydown then in winter and lanes are getting drier more quickly as well...

But that is only on very hot days... so there is a difference I really notice with weather cahnges..

...they have no air condition yet the lanes break down not as fast as one would think as long as weather is "mild"..

I guess there are a lot of things influencing the shot (shoot?)

But if the lanes are not prepared well in the first place... well good luck my friend.. get a hook monster with a strong arcing drilling and hope it hooks on oil and won't freak around if there is a dry spot... (lucky me I have such a controll ball)

That is good stuff.. Was trying to see if most houses are going for this longer shoot pattern and less backend. I have noticed more companies are producing allot of stronger balls and you need those things for the expensive ball to work.

Thanks for the input....

I really think the lane shoot and ball manufactories got something going on.

Lets keep this on the DL..
