..to ABC inspections following an honor score? I remember my first honor score quite some time ago, they took my ball after league was over, taped over the switches to turn on the lane so no one else bowled on 'em and there was a bit of testing applied to both the next day after the score. Last Wednesday night, I was blessed with my 6th 300th game, and even though I've shot other honor scores since the ABC "policy" came into effect it got me wondering.. I know that it's a hassle for both the center and the ABC reps to have to test all of this stuff, but what ever happened to the integrity of the game? I mean.. I'm an honest person, and wouldn't knowing throw an illegal ball and I'm sure that the ball driller that I use wouldn't even GIVE me an illegal ball, but lets face it, there ARE people out there that may do something like this, and there are drillers that can make mistakes.. Not to mention that there are houses out there that most likely are out of ABC regs when it comes to their shot until the ABC reps show up for their monthly measurments of the conditions.

Honor scores are now so commonplace, and the ABC's oiling requirements are so loose, that there's no reason take the time to verify anything. What are they gonna do, send someone out to verify that there was at least 3 units of oil on the 2 board? Why bother?

As for the ball you used, I doubt there are more than a few people in any one association who would even be able to check the ball for anything more than its gross weight.

Besides, we all trust each other nowadays, don't we? You wouldn't want to hurt my feelings, would you?

Personally, *I* would like to know that I accomplished this feat on a legit conditions. There have been evenings where I've gone into a center and felt like I could play next to anywhere from where I was standing and still find the pocket. I could care less what anyone else thinks, but not knowing whether the score was shot on a legit condition does still mean something, right?

As I said, with the current "restrictions", it's very unlikely that you're bowling on a lane that doesn't meet the ABC requirements. Shots that funnel the ball to the pocket are completely within spec. So what is it you want them to verify?

Aristotle, If you adjust to the lane and throw 12 perfect in the hole, what difference does it make if the lane condition is legit? To be in the hole all 12, you still have to execute well - and you'll know if you've thrown them all good or not. I would know if I had thrown the game and deserved it, and that would be enough for me.

However, if 5 of those are brooklyn, 4 light, 2 through the nose and only one in the hole, then that's another story...

The biggest thing to consider here is that you are dealing with bowlers. I am a bowler-soon to be center manager-somewhat of a pro shop operator. Bowlers are the biggest cry babies in the world. Imagine this, some 23 year old kid throws his first 300 game. Inspectors come to check the lanes and find them illegal. That kid will wonder exactly why he should be paying abc dues and bowl in league if he cannot get anything out of it. Especially when it is not his fault the lane guy put a wall out there.
I know what you are saying and I agree. These are different times though. People are much less forgiving than ever.
About the illegal ball thing---well, there are people that drill their stuff illegal. That cannot be helped. The ABC, and what local associations are left just do not have the man power to check everyone's ball, not to mention, as it was already stated...just about everything you can put on a lane these days is considered legal.

bottom line...do not look down on yourself because of them not making it legit. If you are throwing an illegal ball...you still have to get it to the hole (or head pin **smile**) for those 12 strikes. If you are throwing on a blocked condition, and you get the ball there, it still has to carry for you. If they were that easy then everyone bowling would have had a 300 that night.
