which company should i try next
« on: January 26, 2007, 02:20:27 PM »
I have used these balls without much success :wmb, big one, epic battle, game time, phenom unleashed, oracle, passion, and last and least the no mercy. Not one of these balls in my hand have ever lived up to the claim of being for heavy oil. My passion is polished and is great for short oil with back end grip, my phenom is just a tad stronger than that. My no mercy is no polished and i use it for my ten pins and dry lanes, my oracle and big one were stollen so i dont have to worry about them disappointing me anymore. I am really tired of buying balls only to have them leave much to be desired. Is there a company and or ball line that delivers what it advertises. Or maybe irts my set up of the balls .
My no mercy is drilled with the pin 4 inched from my pap and the heart well in my track . The battle is drilled 3.5x4. my wmb is set up pretty close to the battle. My passion and phenom have the same set up with the pin above and centered on the passion and below the bridge on the phenom.I have had these balls redrilled resurfaced ,made them duller ,polished them and nothing helps . Is it me or should i try a new company.

If the balls were drilled correctly they should work, unless you're using them on the wrong conditions.

I noticed that your revs and speed are very similar to mine. I also have been experimenting with different ball company's and layout's.What I have finally settled on are two basic layouts, pin above ring finger on two balls that give plenty of lenght and sharp break to the pocket(Sahara & Radical) and one ball drilled aggressive, the Angular One for heavier patterns. I have sold three balls that did not seem to match up well with my type of game,1 Columbia, 2 Storm. The point is that I,ve had to go thru serveral balls to get comfortable and consistent with the ones I wound up with. Keep looking and keep practicing.

Rarely do most people come across true heavy oil conditions where a ball like the mammoth can reach it's true potential.  Talk to your driller about the condition you are struggling with and see what he says. You may just need something that doesn't flare so much, that way you can square up and have something that will be continuous...this can be achieved with the proper drill pattern, plug one of your balls now and try a different pattern.

If you've tried that many heavy oil balls, either your technique isn't sound for developing a good roll for heavy oil, or you're not bowling on heavy oil.  There's certainly nothing wrong with the balls you listed, so that's not the problem.  Strong balls with strong layouts tend to roll out easily when thrown on too little oil, especially for lower ball speeds.  Also, the balls you list are made to handle large amounts of oil, not necessarily hook a ton.  I think that's another false impression many people still have about oilers.  Sure you can cover a lot of boards on lesser volumes of oil when there is still good head oil and drier outsides, but so will a ball made for medium oil.  Usually the medium oil ball will look more impressive on the same conditions because it's saving it's energy better for the back ends.  The heavy oil ball is slowly bleeding energy the whole way down the lane, so it doesn't have much pop left for the back ends.

Do you have a video posted so we can see the way you release the ball?  Maybe your release is too end over end for the strength of the balls, the amount of head oil you see, and your ball speed?

I would believe that you are not seeing Heavy Oil, your drillings are not correct for your style, and lastly you have not matched up. Unfortuneatly you have spent a load of $$$ and time. My advise is to get a pearl particle in the mid price range and drill it 4x5 or there about and adjust the cover to match up. I think that you will be much the better off and have a few more dollars in your pocket. Heavy oil balls are CONDITION SPECIFIC and won't work on less than the intended condition, most are not HOOK MONSTERS EITHER as stated above.
Believe me I am not attempting to be rude or overbearing just truthful.
