Which do you prefer?
« on: December 03, 2009, 05:26:19 AM »
So the tournament I run in January up until this year has been top 16 match play down to 2 for head to head. This year I decided to change it up to the top 20 advance with total pin fall carrying over then they will bowl 3 more games with total pin fall carrying over, cut to top 10 then 1 more game to determine the top 5 for stepladder. This reason I wanted to try this is because I feel that the man or women that leads the tournament by lets say 200 pins should have an advantage. Where as the other format lets the man that just squeezed in beat the top seed.

What are your thoughts?

I think the top five format is much better. There's no way someone should lead all of qualifying and not get rewarded. The first in should never be first out!
I've also bowled in events where they took the top 16 but the leader got a bye into the championship match and 2nd high qualifier got a bye into the 2nd round of match play. This keeps the match play format and insures the leader isn't screwed.

I like the change, agree with your thinking. Where is the tournament held?

I tend to favor longer formats...I'm still kind of young yet too I suppose.  It just seems to me that the more games I get in the more I get in tune with what is going on, so I say add a bunch more games.

I like the idea of the new format, just make it 3 games before you cut to 5.
