Which league format?
« on: March 01, 2008, 03:48:16 AM »
A little survey. Which league format do you like the best. Most leagues in my area are 36 weeks so we will base it on 36 week season.

One 36 week format, full season

Two 18 week format, half season

Three 12 week format, thirds

Four 9 week format, quarters
--------------------
3 holes of fun!!

In order of preference...

1)Two 18-week halves
2)Four 9-week quarters
3)Three 12-week thirds
.
.
.
.
.
.
176) One solid 36-week season. Yuck.

I prefer two 18-week halves.  Really, I'd prefer two 25-week halves and just take two weeks off during the year.  I've never done thirds or quarters.

I did quarters a couple of times and it was pretty fun. Then you had basically a PBA tour Sunday at the end of the year (top record for a quarter-winner vs. the bottom record, while the middle two played each other, then a one-game rolloff between the winners of the two semis for all the marbles).

I really like the 36 week season. But I have done the 18 week halves and only had one complaint. Some people would sandbag at the beginning of the first half and then shoot 6's towards the end. THen when the second 18 weeks started, they would sandbag again. I have said that you would need to carry over your average from the previos half.

But halves are fun and quaters are fun as well.

BOWL119 - Every league I ever bowled in your average carried thru from one half to the next.

So many questions, so little time but I'm having fun.

Agreed. And your ending average in that league carries over to the next year even if you bowl higher in a different league.

My league currently has a 16 week -16 week and combine totals for last four weeks for a 36 week season.  Three separate prize funds, match play.

I like the 2 18 Week Halves, with a rolloff at the end of the year with of course a little extra cash to the team who wins that.

1/3's. Rolloff- winners of each and one for total number of wins for the year. If the totals winner won a 1/3 they get a first round bye (direct ticket to the finals) Keeps more teams into it throughout a long season.
