Which means more to you?
« on: October 14, 2005, 10:13:33 PM »
Here is a question that is all about personal opinion...

Which of these 2 occurances would mean more to you?

A) You shoot 800 on a night that there are numerous 700s, even some others just short of 800.

B) You shoot 750 or above, and are the only person to shoot over 700 that night.

Both of these settings are assuming a relatively competitive scratch league or handicap league. It includes people who can shoot big numbers at any time.

Option A is appealing because of the number involved. When you shoot 800, there is a value to that. That is a number like no other in bowling. Even if the shot is easy, you still get recognition from your peers. Also you get to recognize the accomplishment to yourself, in spite of the fact that the shot was obviously less than challenging.

Option B is more of a personal achievement. You realize that you were the best in the league when the shot or lane conditions were not necessarily easy. Nobody is going to shake your hand or right an article about you shooting 750 or 775 but you were still the only person in the league to excel that evening.

Please let me know your opinions.

I'd say the 800 over the 750.

A few years ago in the Dayton Ohio area a friend of mine shot 840+ during their city tournament. While at the same time people were complaining about the lane conditions being terrible. No one else on the pair had over 640.

That would have been sweet to watch.
free agency it is until i get a better offer.   LMAO

I have been fortunate to do both. I shot 846 (289, 267, 290) and came in second in a tournament (first place shot 858), and I shot 815 on a night when I was the only one in the league to break 700. I'm not great, both instances the shot was ridiculously easy on my pair, at least for me they were.

I try not to buy into the hype regarding high scores because scores can go the other way too. I have been the only one to not shoot 600 as well. You have to keep things in perspective otherwise it will drive you crazy, because sometimes there is no rhyme or reason to why you do good one day and awful the next.

I try to start over with limited expectations (everyone has expectations) and just try to execute to the best of my ability on every shot.
