Which of these thumb products is the best?
« on: August 08, 2007, 07:36:23 AM »
There are three different things that I am intrested in buying for my thumb. Which would be best?

What is the difference between these two?
http://www.buddiesproshop.com/product/567/Vise_Thumb_Protection_Tape_Roll_of_Bowling_Tape.htm
http://www.buddiesproshop.com/product/573/Vise_Skin_Protection_Tape_Roll_of_Bowling_Tape.htm

And I was also considering this.
http://www.buddiesproshop.com/product/3503/Brunswick_Thumb_Saver.htm

Which of these would be the best?

Reason why I'm asking is because I find myself squeezing a bit and by about the 7th or 8th game my thumb had pieces of skin that tear off, blisters, and sometimes calluses.

Are you squeezing because of a bad fit??  I used to squeeze the ball before I changed drillers.  I would have your driller check the fit first.

The fit feels fine. It's just that I have to squeeze my thumb to get a good grip and prevent it from falling off of my hand in the backswing.

Then it is a bad fit. You shouldn't have to squeeze your thumb at all. A good fit will have you completely relaxed in the thumb hole and no squeezing is needed. I'd bet your thumbhole is too big, either use some tape, blow in the hole or get it checked as it may need to be reslugged/plugged.

Well, I don't want to get any of my balls plugged and redrilled. That's why I want to buy one of the three items that I mentioned.

It can be sure that having balls plugged and redrilled is not only a hassle time-wise but also financially painful.  However, if you are having trouble holding the ball comfortably then you should buy a roll of 1" white bowlers tape and fix it to where the ball will stay on your hand without having to squeeze it.  Squeezing the ball leads to many bad habits, poor deliveries, and makes it difficult to repeat shots consistently.  After adding some tape if you are still interested in buying tape to protect your thumb, go with the Vise thumb protection tape.  I bowl with it on occasionally when my thumb it small and I do not feel like adding a roll of tape for a single night of bowling.  Hope this helps.

That tape would work fine, but why not just go to your local shop and buy a roll?

these two are the same thing just a different color. I use the vise tape when I bowl. I find it helps to give me a smooth and consistent release.

the brunswick one I'm not sure I havent really seen one used before to see what they work like.

as Newman said try the 1" white tape.
as for your fit you should atleast have it checked and if it is incorrect then you can decide whether or not to fix it now or later. Sounds like you thumb hole may be too big. so the white tape should work.
